Introduction

Steem-UA was announced at the end of August 2018. It was immediate hit and took Steem by storm. In a week or two, the project collected more than 300k SP delegation. Since then it continued to support users on the Steem blockchain, without a lot of noise. Lets see how did this went.

Steem-UA, or Steem User Authority is an alternative user reputation system of the current system that Steemit have. A lot of people complain about the current reputation system, arguing that it is broken. The reputation can be bought with money. People can buy bots to vote their posts and their reputation will go up. It is not an accurate representation of the reputation. All of this are the points being made.

So, @scipio and @holger80 decide to do something about this and created a new kind of reputation system for Steem. The Steem User Authority, @steem-ua was born. Another project that shows the power of open source communities. If you don’t like something about the system, you can actually make a difference.

How does it work?

How the reputation system work they have explained in their announcement post, and after that again in this post.
One of the most important things for the UA is who is who is following who. They are looking into your followers, and then the followers of your followers etc. In this way the account network is build and a UA score is calculated. Also, the engagement rate, the overall influence of each user, and the quality of the content each user creates are considered.
They have a web UI steem-ua.com, where the top 100 account are showed, and you can check your Steem User Authority. I have delegated to @steem-ua and I enjoy their regular vote and find it interesting to follow my personal UA.

Scope of Analysis

In this analysis, data on Steem-UA voting, delegations, and number of users supported will be presented. Steem-UA has specific way of operating, voting the users according to their delegation and UA score. Because of this a more detailed look will be made for the correlation between delegation, number and weight of votes. A ranking on the Steem-UA users will be made as well.

The analysis was carried out for the period from 01.08.2018 to 19.02.2019. Data from the Steem blockchain was used and details of the queries can be found at the bottom of this post.

Steem-UA Delegations History

Like mentioned above @steem-ua became operational at the end of Aughust 2018. Before this there was some activities and voting from the account, but the project was officially announced on 26.08.2018, to be precies with this post.

After the announcement it became an instant hit. Here is a graph on SP delegated to Steem UA.

02.png

As we can see from the graph Steem UA had an exponential growth. The line of the delegations went vertical just after announcing the project and it reached its maximum at the beginning of September 2018 with more than 530k SP delegated to the account. In October there was a drop in the delagtions with couple of large delagators removing delegation. Since then the amount of SP delegated remeined almost the same with a small decrease over time, finishing around 300k at the moment.

Another important thing to look at the project is not just the amount of SP it holds but the number of delegators as well. Or how well diversified a project is. Does the majority of SP is coming from one account, a couple of accounts or big number of users?

Here is the graph of number of users delegating to Steem-UA.

03.png

Here we can see that the number of users delegating to Steem UA have a similar, but not exact pattern as the amount of SP delegated. Here as well we have a massive growth in the beginning of the project and then almost a stagnation of the number of delegators. But unlike the amount of SP delegated, here we can see that the number of delegators remained almost constant and didn’t had a big drop. Although it is clear that it has slowly been dropping. The maximum number of delegators was reached in November with around 970 delegators per day. Now there is around 900 delegators. Not bad, especially having in mind how quiet they have been in the last couple of months.

Number of Posts Voted from Steem UA

@steem-ua rewards it delegators. For a delegation of 25 SP, there is one vote per week, for 50 SP, two votes, 100 SP equals 4 votes and 250 SP 7 votes per week. For the heavy delegators, and they have a lot of them, they have a special rewarding program. As better the Steem UA rank the higher the vote. Quality of the post is also included when voting. They made a rank of each post when voting. The info is in the comment what is made under the post after voting.

Here is the graph of number of daily votes from Steem-UA.

04.png

The total number of posts voted from Steem UA for the period analysed is 79.621
This is quite something. If we look at the projects supporting users with votes, Steem UA is at the top when it comes to a number of votes casted.

Here we can see that there is an increase of the number of daily votes in the beginning of the project. Later there is a huge drop that is caused from the HF 20, and a huge increase afterwards to compensate. After these oscillations the number of daily votes stabiles itself within a range from 300 to 600 daily votes.

Daily Average Vote Weight [%]

Steem UA is voting with difrent vote weight on the posts. The weght of the vote depends on the UA score and the quality/score of the post. Below is a chart of daily average vote weight in %.

05.png

The daily average vote weight is 2,3%

Note on this chart, for better readability I have catted the picks from the beginning and when HF 20 happened.

This graph is a bit revers from the one above. In the beginning since there was not a lot of users and no a big SP delegated to the account Steem-UA casted more heavy votes. Later as the number of users increased and SP growth as well the votes are less heavy, when looking at them in percentages. Here we can notice a slight increase in the vote weight in time.

Number of Users Voted from Steem UA

The number of Users that received a vote from @steem-ua is an interesting to follow.
This shows how many users @steem-ua supported with their vote. Below is a chart with a number of monthly users that received vote from Steem UA.

06.png

A Total of 1917 users received a vote from Steem UA in the period analysed.

Almost 2000 users suported from Steem UA. It is always great to see project supporting a big number of users. Doing this Steem UA is giving support to a lot of Steemians and is contributing to the blockchain adoptiation as a whole.

The number of monthly users supported by Steem UA reached its maximum in September 2018, with 1500 users voted, and then there is a decline towards the end of the year. In January 2019 there is around 1000 of users that received a vote from Steem UA. February is not inclued here, but the number were good and there may be a possibility the number of users to start increasing.

Number of Unique Users Voted by Steem UA

Below is a chart with the number of unique users voted by Steem UA.

07.png

The chart represents the number of unique users, not a daily or monthly active ones. We can see that new users continued to arrive to the platform. The biggest growth as for the other charts at the beginning of the project, but then it continues. The overall that is showing a slight decrease in the overall number of users, meaning that some of the active users stopped using the Steem UA service, but new users still kept coming.

Correlations between SP delegations, number of votes and vote weight

Since Steem UA is voting based on the amount of delegated SP here are some scatter charts on users and dependencies between SP delegations, number of votes and vote weight.

Delegation VS Number of Votes

08.png

We can see that the greatest number of votes are for users with 25SP, 50SP 100SP and 250SP. This makes sense since those are the values asked from the Steem UA when delegating. Interesting the 250SP have the most votes, meaning a lot of daily content creators 😊.

Vote Weight VS Delegation

09.png

Here as well we can see that the votes on users are grouped around the requested values for delegation. Also, we can see that most of the votes are in the range between 1% and 3%.

Vote Weght VS Number of Votes

10.png

This one looks like a comet 😊. Most of the users received between 30 to 50 votes, with a vote weight around 2%.

Congratulation to the top Steem UA users!
A lot of sound names here. These are users who have delegated a significant amount of SP to the project and have been posting regularly.

On the first place is @arcange. He is making his daily stats posts and have 5k SP delegation. Well done to him. Second is @deanliu and on the third place @joythewanderer.

Conclusion

Steem UA is giving support to a great number of Steemians. It is one of the steem projects that is probably supporting the biggest number of users. Almost 2000 Steemians were voted from Steem UA, with a monthly number around a 1000. It is always nice to have some support and Steem UA is providing this. With a delegation between 25 to 250 SP, Steemians can make sure to have support from Steem UA. After the massive growth when launching the project, it has maintained a stable number of delegations and users. A slight decrease in this number is noticeable in the last months but still it has a nice amount of SP and number of delegators. Maybe a new push is needed from the devs to make it more attractive. From my personal experience I can say that it would be great if there is better evaluation of the quality of the posts. We can see that the majority of votes are with weight between 1% to 3%. If more heavy votes are casted to quality posts it will intensives better posts, that in the end will mean better platform.

Still they have made a great job and having an alternative system for Steem reputation is a great thing.

Wish them more successful and remarkable 2019!

Hi @dalz,
interesting topic, we haven't had many analyses on steem-ua so far! There was indeed not much publicity from steem-ua in the last couple of months. The release of the source code was the last announcement around 3 months ago. That could potentially explain the slow decrease in delegations. An interesting fact is that there are currently around 900 delegators and around 1000 users voted in January. Given the fact that steem-ua additionally votes Utopian posts, this seems to be a pretty good match. It looks like the vast majority of delegators are also actively posting (as a prerequisite for receiving votes), which is not necessarily the case for a lot of other Steem apps or services using delegations. I like the scatter plots! Delegation vs. number of votes is no big surprise, whoever posts multiple times per week directly benefits from higher delegations. The other two show no specific trend, at least it's not obviously visible. No gains in weight for more delegation or higher posting frequency. Good result, IMHO.
