Introduction

There are not a lot of platforms built on the steem blockchain that allow for as much flexibility as Hede does. From the kind of posts you can write about, to the ease of usage of the platform, Hede.io allows users to contribute to the platform without having to be too official in their writing styles. Now, users unfamiliar with Hede.io may want to ask –what is Hede? I’d tell you guys in a bit.

Hede.io is an open source platform built on the steem blockchain. This platform allows you to define a whole lot of terms in whatever way you deem fit as far as they make some sort of sense. You may wonder how Hede.io is different from other platforms like urbandictionary, Wikipedia and others.

Here’s my answer to this question - the difference between Hede.io and other such platforms is that you can get rewarded for contributing on this platform. So when you make your definitions of terms, you receive an upvote from hede on your contribution. This way, the community not only gains, but you also gain as well. That said, let’s go to the main topic for the day.

Possible Contribution Styles for Hede.io

So you have gone through the first episode of my ongoing series on Hede.io. You have been able to log in and it’s now time for your first contribution. Unfortunately, you are confused and not sure of what to write on now. It’s all going to be fine. Now hold my hand let me walk you through the possible contribution topics and styles on Hede.io

1. Word or a Question?

To be frank, anyone is accepted. Some folks prefer to title their contribution with the word they want to define and ride on. For example, I want to define “banana”. I can title my contribution “Banana” and go on to write the body of my post. It is all fine. You break no rules by doing that.

There are some people who are uncomfortable with having their steemit blog page look like a dictionary. I am one of them. Infact, I remember having to go through steemit to edit my contribution from bearing only “Agriculture” as its title. At the end, it read “What is Agriculture?” This is completely alright as well.

Your title can either be a word or a question. It all depends on you and what you are trying to achieve. If you are trying to post a contribution about someone, then you can simply ask “Who is didic?” Here, you do not need to put the “@” in front of the steemian’s username as that symbol has been designated for searching profiles.

2. Singular or Plural

When contributing on Hede.io, we prefer that you make use of the singular when defining words. You don’t need to write “radios”. We prefer that you write “radio”. Keep it simple, you know what I’m saying. There is an exception yet for noun words that are plural by default. Examples are economics, news, physics, mathematics, etc.

3. Let’s talk about websites

Yes of course, you can make contributions about your favorite websites and social media platforms. That is allowed. Now what you shouldn’t do is to write the title as a link when entering your title. Let’s say you want to write about Facebook. Please don’t input your title as Facebook.com. Leave it simply at Facebook. Same for Instagram.com, Actifit.io and the others. Let your title bear just the name of the website without adding the link extension.

4. Cars, cars, cars and more cars

I have a car. My car is a Highlander and I wish to define it on Hede.io. That’s okay, but please it would be nice if you included the brand of the car in front of them. So for Highlander, it should appear as Toyota Highlander when you are entering your title on Hede.

A Camaro should not appear as Camaro on Hede. Chevrolet Camaro would be a more befitting topic. It gives us an idea of which brand of car you are talking about exactly. I believe you get the flow now.

5. Names of people, names of people

On Hede, starting a topic on your own name or the name of your very close friend is allowed. You can do that but except you are telling us what the name Juliet means to you, it’s preferred if you write the name in full. This is especially important for names of people outside of social media. For example, if you are writing about the owner of Facebook, enter the title as Mark Zuckerberg. It is better than going with just Mark or Zuckerberg.

6. @ned and other steemians

When you are making a topic about users on social media who do not have their full names on their page. For example, when writing about Ned, your topic title can be “Ned” and nothing else. Same should be done for every other steemian. Like I mentioned earlier in No 1, you don’t need to put the “@” symbol before the name of the steemian in your topic.

7. Movies and Shows, Shows and Movies

Hey movie lovers, you can also enter a contribution about your favourite movies on hede.io. Game of Thrones, How to get away with murder, The Transporter, Merlin, The Three Musketeers and several others are examples of movies you can write about on Hede. When writing about these movies, ensure that the title is exactly as it is on imdb.

Don’t add “The” to the title of the movie when entering your topic if the article was not added to the title by the producer of the movie. For series, it is better you talk about the original series title and not the title of each episodes. A brief overview of the entire show or series would be well appreciated.

Conclusion

Contributing on Hede.io isn't as hard as you may think it is. At least, once you are done reading this post and the previous episode, you will be equipped with the right information to begin your journey. Welcome once again to Hede.

Hey,

As is usually true with your posts, this is an excellent and useful update. As is also usually true with your posts, I had some issues of style and grammar. So let's get to the examples!

  • "There are not a lot of platforms built on the steem blockchain that allow for as much flexibility as Hede does." While they're basically interchangeable, I'd use "many" instead of "a lot" here. I'd also capitalize "Steem." Also, the word "for" in "allow for" is redundant.

  • "From the kind of posts you can write about" is wrong. It's either "the kinds of posts you can write" or "the kind of post you can write" or "the topics you can write about."

  • In "I’d tell you guys in a bit." "I'd" is "I would." Which would require a "but." As you actually are going to tell us in a bit, you should have written "I'll."

  • "as far as they make some sort of sense" So close! It's "as long as they make some sort of sense."

And those are my examples for this one, most of which are from the first paragraph. Your posts are definitely readable, but I strongly urge you to keep working on polishing them.

Wow... Beautiful points to take home @didic. Sometimes, most of these errors are committed unwittingly while others are simply as a result of my not being sure of which to use at that point in time.

Sometimes I have to think it through and one rule I have cultivated over the years is that after I say it out aloud and it sounds right to me, then it definitely is right. That is how I made my choices especially in your third and fourth bullet points.

Thank you very much. Hemingway also helped me a lot especially to minimize the lengthiness of some of my sentences. I hope to do better in those aspects soon enough.

Gracias!

Thank you for your review, @didic!

So far this week you've reviewed 21 contributions. Keep up the good work!
