Description

Joomla! is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content.
Over the years Joomla! has won several awards. It is built on a model–view–controller web application framework that can be used independently of the CMS that allows you to build powerful online applications.

Joomla! is one of the most popular website software, thanks to its global community of developers and volunteers, who make sure the platform is user friendly, extendable, multilingual, accessible, responsive, search engine optimized and so much more.

This project was born in 2005 and over all these years hundreds of developers have work to improve it.
There are over 2 millions of websites created with Joomla!.
Here you can find many of them, including some of the most relevant owned by famous people, brands and companies, such as Michael Phelps, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and others.

Why this project

This is the second project I work on, since my beginning as an approved translator. I'm very glad my Language Manager @mcassani proposed Joomla! to me, because it's very challenging to give my contribution to such an important, popular and useful software like this. I had the chance in these last years to create, together with my husband, a couple of websites for our business; being free to build, maintain and modify your website whenever you like, it's something very convenient, instead of trying to explain your ideas to someone else, even if professional.
It's quite easy to use Joomla! and it offers plenty of templates and extensions to customise your website.
This project has been previously translated by other users covering the 82% of the total: being such an important and huge software, there were still more than 20000 words to be translated.

Contribution Specifications

This report is about my third contribution to Joomla! translation. I mainly worked on a 2000 words file about installation, that was just partially translated and then I completed the Sample Data file I started in my second work. This time I felt the need to go deeper, because Joomla is a software already available all around the world, therefore I thought I should know exactly which words Joomla team chose to build the italian version of this website some years ago. For example I started translating Permissions with Autorizzazioni that suited better for me, then I watched a kind of tutorial on Youtube where I could realise this word is expressed with Permessi on Joomla italian website. The same happened with Installation folder: I thought was clear to use Installazione, but they named this folder Cartella Installation, translating just folder. All these details are not complicated, but sometimes you have to do an intensive research not just to find the right way, but also to check the correspondence with the existing Italian site.

Translation overview

In this third part I had to translate approximately 1600 words, according to Crowdin Count, to have more than 1000 clean words.

Here you can have a proof of some string I had to translate:

About Templates

Templates control the look and feel of your website.

This blog is installed with the Protostar template.

You can edit the options by selecting the Working on Your Site, Template Settings link in the top menu (visible when you login).

For example you can change the site background color, highlights color, site title, site description and title font used.

More options are available in the site administrator. You may also install a new template using the extension manager.

About Installation

XML Support is not available. This should be enabled by default in php but Ubuntu users, may need to install by doing sudo apt-get install php-xml followed by web server restart.

About Sample Data Blog

Your site has some commonly used modules already preconfigured. These include:

  • Image Module which holds the image beneath the menu. This is a Custom module that you can edit to change the image.
  • Most Read Posts which lists articles based on the number of times they have been read.
  • Older Articles which lists out articles by month.
  • Syndicate which allows your readers to read your posts in a news reader.
  • Popular Tags, which will appear if you use tagging on your articles. Enter a tag in the Tags field when editing.

Each of these modules has many options which you can experiment with in the Module Manager in your site Administrator. Moving your mouse over a module and selecting the edit icon will take you to an edit screen for that module. Always be sure to save and close any module you edit.

Joomla! also includes many other modules you can incorporate in your site. As you develop your site you may want to add more module that you can find at the Joomla Extensions Directory.
