Yeah OK, sorry.... I get it.
You've been following me for the past few months for my posts on Curation, SMTs, silly Meme's, food rants, the state and future of Steem and/or Steemit, bid-bot madness, or perhaps even the odd seaside view from the island of Mallorca.
What you haven't been following me for is Pie charts and #utopian-io tags.
Wait though! Before you hit the unfollow, allow me a minute or two....

With the goals being to:
- Promote Steem, Steemit (and utopian.io)
- Let my friends know i'm still alive
It's now my 15th month on the Steem Blockchain, and as mentioned, my topic areas have been fairly broad.
You could say that I have not found my niche. And part of me thinks, 'I don't want to find my niche. I don't want to categorize myself into one area.' This is all well and good, and I do want to continue with this in mind.
Now however, I think is a good time to focus more...
What is (your) Ikigai?
Until around 3 hours ago, I'd never heard the word 'Ikigai', thats ok though, I don't currently speak Japanese.
Ikigai 'simply' means, 'reason for being'.
I think the Venn diagram below is fairly self explanatory - the simple but powerful things in life are usually awesome huh.
'Ikigai' was introduced to me in this post by @stellabelle, at minute 20 of the 22 minute video included in her blog:
I've included the full link instead of the tekkie short version because the title includes 'blow your mind', and that's kinda what happened to some extent.
The video is totally recommended as a whole, but my point to this is that while listening to the conclusion of the talk and 'Ikigai', what popped into my head - utopian.io
WTF is utopian.io? And can you explain it to me like I just heard of the internet?
utopian.io is an open source project that you can use to contribute to open source projects (like utopian.io!).
The open-source model is a decentralized software development model that encourages and allows anyone to look at the program and offer improvements.
However, you do not need to be a programmer to contribute!
These are the current contribution categories on utopian.io:
And I should mention the bonus category, 'Blog' - This is for content like you produce here, specifically if you are talking about open source, like I am here.
So..
Do you have ideas on how to make Steemit (or any Open Source program!) look nicer or work better? (Suggestion)
Have you spotted something that isn't working properly in Steemit/Busy/eSteem (or any Open Source program!)? (Bug-hunting)
Can you write fluently in 2/3/4 languages? (Translation)
Can you make gifs or have a good eye for colors? (Graphics/Design)
Do you like writing 'how to' guides? (Tutorials)
If the answer to any of these questions is 'Yes', then you can totally contribute, and if this contribution is approved, you will receive an up-vote from @utopian.io
As an example, check this blog out which was posted in the Contribution type 'Visibility'.
This guy is writing about how he got people to join Steemit, and supported them via Whatsapp.
His post was approved by a moderator after initial feedback and a few adjustments, and subsequently approved.
The post value is currently $78, with a $75 vote from @utopian-io:

Have you persuaded a group of people to join Steemit and kept them engaged?
Can you prove it and are you willing to write a Contribution about it, for that sort of reward? I bet!
So yeah, as I do have an IT background, it makes sense to me to mainly focus in this area for now, and I'd like you to still consider following this path with me.
I promise to write updates like this, and blog about other stuff too - You can request a picture of the Sea if you wish :)
I think @utopian-io has the potential to unlock some of the Ikigai in me. I hope that is OK with you guys.

I like the Ikigai! It makes so much sense. My data analysis is in the "profession" area. My writing is edging into the "passion" zone (although it's not that kind of writing!)
I always thought it must look a little schizophrenic from people looking at my feed but reading your article makes me think a lot of people would be in the same boat!

Like Busy.org or chainbb, or zappl, or eSteem app, or dTube, etc, utopian.oi is another gateway onto the Steem Blockchain.
The difference being there is that anything posted will be '1st tagged' with utopian.io - and if 'approved' by a team of reviewers (see the categories above, excluding 'blog' post, will also be stored in the utopian.io repository, as a contribution to open source.
I'm really keen on this as you may have noticed. My background is an aid, but I honestly feel that ANYONE using the internet has the potential to get involved.
Read the section titled 'WTF is utopian.io? And can you explain it to me like I just heard of the internet?' again, and if you can relate to any of the questions asked, let me know and i'll help as much as I can!
