Cafes and Restaurants in Benalmadena
There are many cafes and restaurants, both local and foreign, in and around Benalmadena.
Hercules is one such cafe. They are a local cafeteria. They serve Spanish food and their clientele are mostly locals.
On the other side of the car park, across the road is ‘Any Time Bar’. Any Time Bar is British owned. Their clientele is mostly British people – elderly ex-pats who have retired to Benalmadena. The British bar/cafes like to hold quiz contests. So, in the afternoons, you can see senior citizens and old couples having their tea and taking part in the quiz contests.
Besides the many cafes, there are the restaurants – Spanish restaurants and those owned and run by foreigners, like the British, Irish, Danes, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese Indian, Mexican, Mediterranean… and a few others.
Then, there are the Plazas, or the Squares in English. These dated back to the Roman times. They were ‘centers’, or focal points for the population to come together to meet, to socialize, and to drink. It is still the case today.
A lot depends on where the Squares are located – if they are in the vicinity of the local population, you will see a more local clientele, and this includes the expats who are living here. If they are in the tourist area, then you will find their clientele is mostly tourists. These places are inclined to be a bit more expensive.
