We are talking about an exchange of knowledge and information - not just exchange of information. There is a difference between information and knowledge. Knowledge comes from experience, practice and experience.
The purpose of knowledge sharing is to help the organization as a whole to achieve its objectives, not just for our personal benefit.
Changing culture is difficult, it is not just a change, it means seeing the world in a different way and perspective

Indeed. And since knowledge and wisdom come from those experiences, it requires that one live through life and all its ups and downs. That is why elders are so valuable and that we should be talking to them and encouraging them to share. However most are stuffed into retirement homes and ignored. A shame really.
