River Kwai Bridge - แม่น้ำแควใหญ่
after a relaxing night at my resort in Kanchanaburi I went early in the morning to see this world famous bridge. I was here 8 years before already, but I booked a tour, so there was only a little time to watch the famous points. This time I came alone with enough time to enjoy also the area around Kanchanaburi.
Ok, let's start to visit the River Kwai Bridge......
A little bit of History,
in the year 1942 began the construction of the route, which led about 415 km from Thanbyuzayat in present-day Myanmar to Nong Pla Duk Junction in the district of Ban Pong in Thailand. Of the 263 km that led through Thailand, today only 131 km of the Thai state railway are operated, the remainder was gradually dismantled from 1945 to 1950. The railway line was completed only barely one year after the start of the construction work in the year 1943. And it is possible to measure in what haste one was at that time. Human life counted very, very little in the creation.
But how was it possible to realize this project in such a short time? In order to be able to press such a project in such a short span of time, the Japanese employed numerous forced laborers and prisoners of war. The almost 60,000 prisoners of war, also called "POW" s (Prisoner of War), came from Australia, Great Britain and the Netherlands. In addition, 270,000 Asian forced laborers were also employed. The conditions under which the workers had to work and how they were driven to work were cruel and utterly unworthy of people. Tropical diseases, overwork and harassment by Japanese workers cost the lives of about 97,000 Asian forced laborers and circa 14,000 POWs during construction.
Here I stand now, at the beginning of the River Kwai Bridge....
Here I sit now, on a heavy piece of Thai-Japanese-Burmese history........
I hope you enjoyed the pics around River Kwai Bridge, in the next part you can #walkwithme around the Chinese Temple across the River Kwai Bridge...
Have a wonderful day and best regards
Tom

@therealwolf 's created platform smartsteem scammed my post this morning (mothersday) that was supposed to be for an Abused Childrens Charity. Dude literally stole from abused children that don't have mothers ... on mothersday.
