ULOG: When Fighting Means Sharing

in #ulog6 years ago

Because of our busy lives, family time has become a luxury.

It is not a weekend. There is no occasion to celebrate either. Well, we could consider my sister-in-law and her husband's being in town a reason to celebrate. Or just the fact that the sun's up after two weeks of constant rain.

So for those lame reasons and mostly for the Love of food and togetherness, we make today a day to bond with the family.

Boodle fight it is!

Boodle Fight is a kind of feast inspired by the military men which is primarily meant for sharing. Ironic, isn't it that it is nowhere near food fighting. Well, unless of course you wanted to go into that degree of testing your friendship. Like you have to fight and grab and eat fast or else... Lol.

For the love of Food

There are a variey of dishes you can have for a boodle fight. There are actually no strict guidelines on what to prepare. Grilled or fried meat of pork, chicken or fish could do it. You may also have dried fish like tuyo, danggit, or pusit. You can have lumpiang Shanghai or any dimsum of your choice. You can also have a variety of side dishes, like ensaladang mangga or talong and some blanched vegetables like okra, water spinach, tomatoes and/camote tops is all up to you.

We opted to have seafood party.

By the way, do not forget hot steaming rice. That is just the way it should be. Forget the "one-cup rice diet". Lol.

What's up with boodle fights?

The most important thing to prepare in this fight besides your tummy, is your hands. Wash them clean.

The Filipino culture of eating with bare hands, or kamayan makes this party even more enjoyable. With boodle fights, forget the cutleries. Kamayan is the way it should be.

So you see, boodle fight is enjoyable while eating, and after eating since there are no cutleries nor plates to wash. Food is spread on banana leaves on a long table. But since we have nowhere to get banana leaves, we were inspired to mimic Crab N Crew's version of a boodle fight using pechay instead.

The relaxed feel while eating with bare hands, talking in between yummy munches was a great experience.

This was before the "fight" happened.

And this was what became of it:
