ULOG # 21: Be Careful and Secure Your Steemit Account
I was reading Steemit post in the afternoon. And at the end of the post, I saw a comment. It says that
someone has impersonated you and copied your content :

You spend a lot of time and effort to make content. When you see that someone just impersonated you and copied your content, you want to see who did this. And you will click the link to find it out.
Do you know what happens if you click the link?
Let's find it out.
When you click the link, it seems you are in the same page. Even if you are logged in on your Steemit account, you will see this.
You will find yourself that you are not logged in on Steemit anymore. So, you will usually sign in again.
Just wait.
Check out the url you are redirected to when you clicked the link.
It is NOT steemit.com. It is a phishing site. If you click the link and sign in, you will just be a victim. Hackers will get your password, and you cannot access to your account.
Hackers use different techniques just to steal your account. You can get lucrative offer from hackers such as getting free upvote or steem. You might also see comment like that.
You copied your article. You will be in big trouble for that.
Then they give you a link to click. The thing is, you will not be in trouble unless you click the link. You know you create your own content, you do not copy from other article. Still you might click the link to learn more. Don't fall in their trap.
If hackers get access to your account, you can guess what will happen next. They will transfer your SBD to their account. They will start power down or delegate your SP to another account.
Even they will use your account to spread the phishing link. People will flag your account when they see that. Your reputation will go down in no time. It feels really bad when you see everything happening in front of your eyes. So when you realize that your account has been hacked, do not waste your time. Take initiative to get back your account as soon as possible.
When you get back your Steemit account, change all the comments that hackers made. Ask the people to remove their flag. Hope everything will be alright soon.
So what can you do to protect your Steemit account?
As we know, prevention is better than cure. There are a couple of things you should pay attention.
- Be careful when you click the link. If you find something suspicious, don't click the link.
- Never use your master key or owner key to sign in Steemit. Use it only to change your password.
- Always use your posting key to sign in your Steemit account.
- Keep your master key or owner key offline or somewhere safe so that hackers cannot get it.
- If you click the link, and you have doubt, check out the url first. You will figure it out what it is.
- And after clicking the link if it says to sign in although you are logged in before, you have to be careful. That could be a phishing site.

I made a mistake once by clicking the link and signing in. Luckily, nothing happened. I signed in using my posting key. That's why, hackers could not transfer my fund. The moment I realized that, I changed my password.
