Ulog 43: Happy Tet Trung Thu
Yesterday was Tet Trung Thu, the mid-autumn festival celebration in Vietnam where kids come go out in the street with laterns in the shape of fish, stars, and all kind of animals, etc to celebrate the holiday. It is a joyous holiday for the little children of Vietnam.
But I completely missed it. I knew it was coming and what day. However, things were some busy that we didn’t get to celebrate much of it. Normally we would lay out fruits and Banh trung Thu for the ancestors. I bought fruits for my mother-in-laws to offer to the ancestors on Friday. I knew that that It would be for Sunday. I ended up doing stuff on Sunday and going about and then just missed the day. In Vietnam, I wouldn’t have missed it because it would have been too big of a holiday. Everyone else would have told me. Here in the US, you have to make a conscious decision to do something about the day to actually celebrate. Otherwise it would just be a normal Sunday.
The last week has been extremely stressful and busy. In my department, five senior administrators have resigned. That left lots of work to be done and not enough people to do it. It means that those who are still here have to pick up the slack. Even my direct report has resigned. It is such a stressful time for everyone.
At home I am zoning out. I do that by turning on the television and watch whatever shows that seem interesting at the moment.
