My version of your day would have my girlfriend or daughter asking why I just sat around and did nothing while they were gone!
Sometimes you just got'ta say, "Fuck it! Grab a drink or your favorite recreational drug and marvel at the absurdity of life, no?"

Ha ha, Yes that used to be the case... But my wife is more forgiving if I have been dealing with the night shifts!
