ULOG no. 33: Wondering why people will choose to harass others

The other day, I came back to my hometown of Bamenda after spending a few weeks out of town. The next day i decided to go see my dad and on my way, two guys came down from a bike and waved at me to wait for a moment. I thought they were lost and wanted direction or something but instead they walked up to me and surrounded me and asked me to hand my phone over. They even threatened me and quietly i handed over the phone and they rushed to their bike and took off immediately fearing i will raise an alarm. I just stood there and watched them disappear into the next bend.

I could not help but just feel sorry for them because they were quite young and to think that this is the path they chose was really pitiful. This is what our governments have turn many young aspiring people into; criminals who harrass others and collect their belongings. I was just wondering to myself; why would they chose this path?
I know things are hard but there are others just like them too out there who are struggling through honest means to make but they just chose the easy way out i guess. I could not even think of raising an alarm at that point since i was a little caught up in my shock because that was the first time i was harassed by thieves. I only heard of it but never experienced it and i thank God i did not raise an alarm.

Despite what they did, i would not have forgiven myself if they were caught and killed because of me. The way the mob handle criminals nowadays is very extreme and i just think of someone being beaten and killed because of me. I still think they are young and soon enough they will see the light and change their ways. I still believe there is good in them and one day God will open their eyes and they will leave the dark side of life. My prayer is that they make use of the opportunity before it is too late.

I was also grateful to God that i was not hurt at all and no important document of mine was in the phone. So i will say it was not such a bad day after all. I really hope things will change in this country of mine before crime waves shoot to an increase. The current situation is already bad the way it is and if things should continue like this, then things will just get out of hand.
