Friskoven Eco Village Update

in #ulog5 years ago

Long time no see!
Living without electricity definitely has its limitations!
But here I am with a little late update on our eco village project "Friskoven" on the Danish island Bornholm.

Update - mostly in pictures..!

So I moved into my little converted chicken house...;

And it's been a nice house for the summer. now the Danish Autumn is slowly setting in though, and we have had a lot of rain and humidity. The house is not insulated and has not heating (and drying) source, so it's already time to move out. We have a fire stove in "Smedjen"; "The Smithy", our communal building and we have build a loft where I started to stay in instead of the chicken house. I have no picture of the loft for some reason. I forget to take pictures of many things...!
But we also spend a lot of the summer taking away the old broken glass in the windows and setting in new ones! :

.. with the help from our wonderful workawayers!

We have also done a lot more cleaning up...!

Hi Freia,

Good to see you're still alive and well ;>)

You call that a converted chicken house. I guess the chickens that where living there were giants!

Those homemade breads look awesome and so do the veggies.

A big hug from Portugal - where all is well - and I'm looking forward to your reply in a month of three, when you have Internet again :>)

Haha, yes it's a pretty big house - actually used to be even bigger , used to be some kind of industrial chicken farm in the 1920's before the state bought the whole area in 1939 and made it into a work camp.
Good to hear that all is well in Portugal! Start missing it as the cold and wet season is really starting here.. But there's so much to do here always!

Der findes stadig hippier! Dejligt at se.

Over det hele. København, Sverige, Norge, Fyn :)

Det lyder sgu da meget nice :D

I'm so happy to see this update, @frejafri. The chicken house looks better every time. It's too bad you cannot stay full-time, but that huge room would be hard to heat no matter what you do. And using workaway people ! Go you! I am sure this is one of the best stops any of them ever had.

It is just amazing what you have done here since the first post when you arrived. I'm so happy you keep us informed. I waiting for a post with snow it it now :)

haha, thank you! Yes, it will come, though I'm not looking that much forward to the snow to come!

lovely to see this post! i dont seem many people working on ecoVillages ;-) How many people are in your community?

I hope to see more posts from you.. please tag ecotrain so we can be sure to spot you and support you!>

<3 best of luck!!!!

Thank you! i hope I will have more time to post in the following months! I've been so into the project, living in the forest without electricity that there hasn't been time for documenting everything!
Now I will probably move in with friends for a couple of months as the forest is too cold in winter, and I will have more time and access to write. Still in a transition period finding out where to stay though!

We are 7 adults and 4 children currently involved in the project, but are hoping for many more to come, as the project is too big for us to lift alone!
