Cookfest, Teachers' Edition

in #ulog6 years ago

Hello Steemians, a very busy week and I really miss my Steemit family. How are guys? Sharing this memorable experience in my field of work, the Cookfest teachers' edition as one of the major activities in celebration of the Nutrition Month.

My last blog #ulog was when I became one of the judges for the Cookfest Grade 7- level but this time all the teachers are the participants except the TLE-Home Economics group who are the judges with the principal as the facilitator. They were making the mechanics and the criteria.

A day before the event, a short meeting was called by every subject's master teacher to inform us with the event and assign cooking tools and table implement to bring. I was obliged to bring skirting cloth, table napkins, chopping board, knife and 3 platters. Early morning, all teachers were carryng bulky bags as if we were not to return home after an evacuation.

The event was scheduled in the afternoon, started with the checking of tools by subject area, to think that our principal is so strict on that sense of responsibility, good thing our team was marked complete. And to notice, there were some tools which were newly bought just to make our team complete with the requirements.

We were more than a hundred teachers gathered in the school ground with our student audience. We picked a number from 1 to 10, each number represents an animal where we have to rotate shouting the sound of the animal we are assigned to. I had picked number 1 which is theCat group so I screamed loudly meow, meowww.

There are 10 tables with the same ingedients to use: 1 whole chicken, 1/2 kilo ground pork, 1 big fish (Bangus), 1 carrots, 1 sweet paper, a piece of ginger, 2 stalks leek, 2 cans milk (evap and condensed), 1 box Nestle cream, 1 pack gulaman, 1 kilo rice, 1 clove garlic, 1 piece potato, 1 pack native lemon, 1 box cheese, a bunch of camite tops, 1 onion, 1 piece onion, a pack of salt, vetsin and powdered black pepper.

Using these ingredients, we were required to prepare a main dish, appetizer, dessert and beverage. Another required performance is the table setting where our preparations are all set in the dining table of 12 persons.

My team was destined that @georgie belong to my group, she was the only member who also loves cooking, the rest 8 members only love eating. The two of us decided what menu we can have with the given ingredients. Other members helped in slicing, washing, table setting, etc. The worst thing is we have a traditional cooking using firewood and charcoal, disbeauty was on our way OMG.

Introducing mam Khastine, a Science teacher, her hudband is an international ship captain, now her role is to build a fire for our cooking, still on her poise, hehe.

The time allocated was for two hours but we were done ahead of time cooking the following:

Main dish - Chicken Pinaupo Stuffed with Ground Pork (The excess ground pork was cooked into meat balls fronting our chicken to highlight the presentation.)

Appetizer - Fish Kinilaw Lined with Camote Tops

Dessert - Mango and Cheese 'n Whipped Cream and Gulaman

Beverage - Mango and Carrot Shake with Lemon Juice ( The glass in yellow shake, don't have the picture it's my student who did the picture taking since we were all busy in doing the task. They are some of my coteam members. The one wearing red blouse is Dr. Cachapero, our master teacher in English, we made her as one of the dish washers).

When all the ten tables were set, we presented our group yell as part of the judging for teamwork. And as it goes that after cooking, eating follows we sit in for dining as one group like there is a fiesta celebration. The event ran out smoothly though the awarding of winners was not carried by time, we went home at almost 8PM after the housekeeping. Imagine when I left home at 5AM for I am on the first shift and came home late. It was tiresome but enjoyable. But what the event brings is teambuliding being the workforce of a big high school.

There is no such thing as a self-made man. You will reach your goal only with the help of others.
