INTRODUCTION

Feminism is a movement for women liberation in the society, women seek to call for gender equality in the society as women are been marginalized in the society by men. Men are seen as superior while the women are seen as inferior in the society; a male child at birth is placed with a symbol of authority and a female child is placed with low importance as some culture strongly demand a male child for inheritance.
Sweet Revenge by Irene Salami is used to discuss the issues that are face by other women in the society as regard to marginalization, betrayal, oppression and political dominance.
Sota sa projected by Irene Salami in Sweet Revenge represent a fellow man who would oppress his own wife and children. Sota had oppressed and marginalize Sosa who happens to be his legal wife.

“Sota: Sosa, I must be frank with you, you no longer excite me. You are too dull and drab. The spark that used to be in your life is no longer there… you have failed as a mother. You cannot meet my sexual needs. Sexually you are dumb. Of what used are you as a wife?” (Sweet Revenge, 26-27)

Having gone to London to study International Relation, Sota ask Sosa to quit her job so that she will be at home with the children and promise to be sending her N40,000 monthly to which he ends up sending her just N10,000 to take care of four (4) children and herself, she had to struggle hard for her children school fees and food as the N10,000 could not carter for their need , he completed his studies and got a work in London forgetting his loyal and faithful wife and four (4) children at home in Nigeria. He marries a white named Cheril, Sota was call upon by his people to come home and represent his people in the seat for Senate in the National Assembly, he won the election as a result of women mobilization to the favour of his wife Sosa, he fail as a husband to Sosa and after he won the election, he send her and they four (4) children away from the house she built from the inheritance she inherit from her parent after they died. Sota abuse Sosa of failing her duty as a wife and failing to satisfy him sexually, he calls her ugly, old woman, smelly and all sort of dirty names. Sota later regrets his action after he lost his seat as a Senator and his wife Cheril after discovering that Sota have been hiding that he has a wife and four children betrayed her and Sosa for good Six (6) years left back to London and transfer the huge amount of money he send to her account to the Nigerian Government. Cheril was the lady Sota presented as his wife after sending Sosa away feeling that Sosa could not represent well as he sees her from a low status. Cheril and Sosa symbolize womanhood as the both unite together after the both discovered that Sota marries them secretly and had betrayed them. Cheril couldn’t have married Sota if she knew that he was married, but he lied to her that he is not married.
“Show Dem… you see, we have no other person who is competent enough to represent us at the senate. You are the most appropriate person. See all your recent achievements, with such feast, when you talk on the floor of the Senate, men are bound to stop and listen. So, this has nothing to do with Sota” (Sweet Revenge, 67)
After Sota removal from the Senate, Sosa received many favours; she was employed and was to be paid N300,000 monthly salary and her employment letter is back-dated to eight (8) years, that is to say, she will be paid the salaries for eight (8) years she had been working voluntary in the company, a vaccine was named after her and Cheril led a group to which Sosa left to New York and received award for living an exemplary life. The seat for the senate was occupied by Sosa and was later nominated as the Senate President.

CONCLUSION
Irene Salami has succeeded in projecting women as a gender that when given opportunity in the society can perform better as it is seen Sosa achievement. Women are been marginalized by men and are not allowed to be part of politics today to which is not to be so. Women have played so many roles in the politics today but are kept hidden and unrecognized as seen in the text, Sota was voted into power simply because of his wife and women mobilization, women power could be seen as how the women mobilized and remove Sota from the Senate seat, women are great people who often get blame to which they are not the problem.
