Russians are right in Ukraine because they’re naturally the anti-Nazis. (Stupid reasoning)

The newest and dumbest shit I’m seeing from echo-chamber MAGAs, left-wing populists, and so-called “libertarians,” who oppose aid to Ukraine is that Russians helped us defeat the Nazis in WWII.

It is, in a trivial sense, entirely true. The Soviet Union was an allied power, and Russia was the largest component of the Soviet Union.

But putting aside that FUCKING UKRAINE WAS JUST AS MUCH A PART OF THE SOVIET UNION, YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKERS, it wasn’t their ethnicity that made Russians allies. There’s not something in Russian blood that makes them anti-fascists, and in German blood that makes them fascists. Russians and Ukrainians in 2023 are different people than their antifascist Soviet ancestors, separated by 90 years, and at least a couple of generations. Most of them know hardly more than you do about WWII.

In fact, this level of brain dead thinking about global politics is exactly the sort of shit the original Nazis would say, believing that ethnic identity dictates an entire nation’s politics.

Also, while we’re on the subject, the Soviet Union tried to join the Axis (no, I’m not talking about the Molotov-Ribbontrop Pact), and only became an allied power because Hitler personally found Stalin intractable.

Had the Soviets joined the Axis, almost all of your Russian heroes, who you imagine were made that way because of their ethnicity, would have been villains fighting alongside the Nazis instead.

We have the good fortune of living in a country where it’s not only possible, but practical to inform our own political decisions, opinions, and actions, but you motherfuckers have somehow learned nothing. You’re are still operating on the level of the 1930’s populist masses, and you’ve been just as easily duped.
