What Exactly Are The Consequences Jones May Face?
As you may already know, Jones has tested positive for an anabolic steroid turinabol. This came to a surprise to me, but Jones may actually be facing the single most costly drug test failure in UFC history.
Possible consequences (according to bloodyelbow.com) include:
- Having his victory against Cormier overturned
- Forfeiture of his purse
- Forfeiture of his title
- 4 years of ineligibility imposed by USADA
- a $500,000 UFC fine
- A CSAC imposed suspension
- A fine of up to 40% of his purse imposed by the CSAC
- A potential civil lawsuit by Cormier alleging battery
Yikes... It's important not to underestimate the last consequence. Daniel Cormier has an actual case, he signed papers to fight a fair fight, NOT to fight a doped opponent. He could've been seriously hurt, maybe even suffered some brain trauma due to the knockout. He probably won't pursue it though, DC is probably more concerned with his legacy than his purse.
