Conor Wants A Nate Diaz Trilogy Fight... On His Own Terms

Conor initially moved up in weight to 170 lbs to fight Nate Diaz the first time. In the rematch Conor also fought at 170 lbs, most likely to ensure that he would wipe the loss off his record sentimentally. Now Conor is not willing to fight out of his weight class, he wants to face Nate at 155 lbs (Lightweight). Seems fair enough, Diaz was a lightweight for most of his career so it really shouldn't be a problem.

Now with all the talk it seems like this is going to be the fight that happens. When asked if the winner of Lee vs Ferguson (Interim LW champion) would get the title shot against Conor next, Dana White said "I don't know". That's really worrying. In my mind the only fight that could justifiably take precedence over fighting an Interim champion is a fight vs Khabib Nurmagomedov (the current no. 1 contender).

But it seems like Conor will neither fight the no. 1 contender nor the Interim champion. He wants to fight Nate Diaz, who until the the Mcgregor fights was largely irrelevant. He was pretty inactive, fighting only once in 2014, and once in 2015. He was also losing quite a few of his fights. I understand that Conor wants to make money, but the UFC shouldn't allow this right now, Conor has been receiving special treatment for a while, and it is deserved, but now's the time to apply the rules again. Conor is a huge star and an amazing fighter, he's stepped up for the UFC many times, but right now he really needs to fight actual contenders.

The thing that boggles my mind the most is that the UFC actually bothered to book this Interim title fight between Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson when it's actually meaningless. If the winner isn't guaranteed the next title shot what is it all for?
