Setting up DeepOnion Android Wallet

DeepOnion Android Wallet

At first, yes it's released! Just a couple of days passed after the latest major update of DeepOnion when the stealth addresses support was released, and today we already have another great news. The community has been waiting for an Android wallet for a long time and we can say with confidence that the expectations were justified.
The app looks and works just awesome, UI is very nice and intuitive, all the core features are already supported and the blockchain syncs in a few minutes. The only problem the newbies may face is the requirement for the Orbot app integration to connect to Tor network. So, today I've decided to provide a short tutorial about to install and setup the DeepOnion Android wallet.

Application Installation

You may find the link to google play store on the DeepOnion's official website or search for "DeepOnion" directly in store, the installation process won't require any additional actions. After the first launch, you'll see a popup asking you to install the Orbot app, tap "OK" and install it too.

Setting up Orbot

On the first launch of Orbot app you'll see greeting message and 4 slides, switch to the last one and tap "CHOOSE APP". Find the DeepOnion app here and put the check mark on it, go back and tap "OK" on the popup message to allow Orbot to set up VPN connection. Press "DONE" and enable "VPN" mode on the main app screen. That's all, now DeepOnion Wallet will be able to connect to Tor network through Orbot's VPN.

Checking

On the main page, you should see a message telling that it's synchronizing with the network. Open the DeepOnion app and switch to "Network Monitor" page, you should see some peers appearing in a few minutes. That's mean that everything is ready and blockchain will be synced in a couple of minutes, it may take a little bit longer based on your internet connection speed.
While waiting you may try to request some $ONIONs from the faucet to test the new wallet, ones the blockchain is synced and $ONIONs arrive you'll receive a push notification :)

Take care of security

Though you'll see this warning multiple times in the app, it's never superfluous to repeat, that you're the only one who is responsible for your funds. So don't forget to do a backup of the wallet file and save it outside of your phone, to make sure you that in case if you lose your phone you won't lose your $ONIONs with it.
Also, I would highly recommend setting a spending PIN, which may be done by selecting the corresponding item in the main menu.

Thanks for reading, hope you'll find this useful!
If it's so upvotes and comments will be highly appreciated :)

Great tutorial, wasn't even aware that you have so many steps for the installation. Hope we will see a iOS wallet sooner or later, but I am really happy that the Android one is released now :)

Thanks for reply :)
There are some, issues with App Store as I now, Apple don't like crypto wallets, but hope they will be resolved soon.

Very nice and detailed tutorial. I really like the app, clean and nicely designed. I think your tutorial can help everyone who still struggles with the download or installation.

Great tutorial, I was wondering how long before the Android tutorial was released, you answered my question! Nicely done.
