Collecting steem is like collecting turbo gum surprises - My story and an old memory!

in #turbo8 years ago (edited)

Since I was a kid I always liked competition games and I played a lot of them. One of the games I liked the most when I was a kid was chess. My father showed me how to play and I played with him and my other 2 brothers almost every day. That was a great competition for me especially when I start to win after a long time. But, outside the apartment, I had another challenge with my friends from the block. Collecting Turbo Surprises!

Do you remember turbo surprises?

Being a kid, I start collecting turbo gum surprises not only because I was a kid, but all the kids from the block where I lived were collecting them. Like most of the time, there is always a kid who have more than you, and being a kid, you want that too, no matter what. My parents bought me almost every day one or two turbo gums, but for me wasn't enough.

One day they gave me money to buy one turbo gum, so I run to the shop bought it and looked inside what surprise do I have. I chewed the gum for a few seconds, then threw it away and when I did that my mother saw me and that what it. She got mad because of that and told me that I will never see another gum from her.

So, how to make a surprises collection if you are a kid and you don't have money to buy those turbo gums. Not only that I didn't have too many surprises, but I had also many duplicates. One day I saw some boys and they were playing cards, and I with another kid we came up with the idea that we should do that too using surprises instead of money.

At the beginning, there were only a few kids who wanted to play and it was ok because they didn't know how to play so it was great for me. The game became very popular and very fast and I woke up having lots of surprises. I started with one or two hundred of surprises, and one day, I counted them and I had more than ten thousand surprises.

I didn't care that I had a lot of duplicates anymore because I had a lot of surprises, and that was important for me to have more so I can play poker with them. The time passed and I started playing poker with real money and I didn't care anymore about colecting surprises or having surprises. I sold them all to play poker with real money and when I discovered online poker, well I can tell you that was a magic world for me. Collecting turbo surprises was a great for me and I wish I have all those surprises today. What a great memory!

I like to think that collecting steem is like collecting those surprises, only that this time I will hold it and never let it go. Some people are doing what I did when I was a kid only that they chew the steem then threw it away, but I will enjoy every moment I hold steem because one day, when I will remember about steem, I don't want a memory, I want to have steem!

I've never seen these turbo cards before. I collected Garbage Pail Kids cards, they were revolting.

:D I didn't hear about Garbage Pail Kids cards. Well, do you still have that collection?

No, I think they were probably thrown out when I was a kid.

That's too bad.

When I was a kid, we collected "space cards" that were in chewing gum packs-- everything to do with space exploration till about 1972. I eventually got pretty close to a complete collection of 300 different, but I think they deliberately made some of them rare.

Wow, space exploration sounds awesome. I wish we had that too. I wasn't born in 1972 :d
Thanks a lot for stopping by @denmarkguy! Are you from Danemark?

I saw you were born there, but you live somewhere else!

I remember these days when every kid was crazy to collect this kind of surprises, I was one of them too.
Do you remember the feeling when you opened the gum ? There were always few surprises which was so rare and I always had hope to get one of them :)

Yes, I had that feeling as well, but it never became reality because like you said there were too many duplicates.

I collected hockey cards. In mint condition they'd be worth a fortune today but we used to play games with them and so the corners got a bit damaged.

I see that you used an original tag. As you know I did so as well on my post yesterday. Good initiative!

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

Yes, I think all those collections will be worth a fortune but we don't have them anymore. Yes, I try to use for every post new tags and I also saw your post and resteemed and commented. I really liked that story. Cheers Old Dog!
