Use original tags and I will reward you in steem! New 'contest' from @the-future!
I know that a lot of people are afraid to use tags that are not popular only because they believe that people will miss their posts. I understand that because I had the same feeling, until I decided to change that and see what will happen.
The point is that even if you use the most popular five tags and you didn't get paid that doesn't mean people missed your post, maybe people didn't like your post or your tags are irrelevant for your content.
Using for every post an original tag will help steemit to grow faster and better. Think about what will happen if all the users use the same five tags.( chaos )
How to create an original tag?
After you write your post, try to find 3 or 4 words that will describe your post. The main tag should include a word from the title so people will know instantly what you write about and if they like that stuff will read it. For example, for this post, I will choose the main tag to be #originaltag.
Using original tags it will give you a better visibility and people will appreciate that, plus like I said it will be very helpful for this community. I wish I could understand this earlier, but better now that never. So, if you are new or you don't know about this, you should start doing it today. Plus you can promote your posts and get more attention from the users on https://steemit.chat , facebook, twitter and many other social media.

Take in consideration that this is completely new project and for now I'm the only one who will support this contest there will be only one winner, and the the best post with the most original tag will get 50 steem!
I know is not much, but this is what I can afford for the moment.
The rules are simple:
- First tag of your post must be original and it has to be related to your post
- You have to include #originaltag in one of the five tags( it can be 2nd or the last I don't care)
- Try to be creative with the last 3 tags left
- The winner will be announcet on Sunday in another similar post

I try to make sure to use regular and standard tags for like a few and then try and use a random original one for one or two out of the five we have available. Neat contest to encourage this.

Glad this came up @the-future. I asked @timcliff (vote for him as a witness!) a question along these lines 2 days ago. How to get a new tag. He answered: "if you use a tag that has never been used before, as soon as you make .01 SBD on the post - then it will become a new tag" - he qualified that by saying that it may not even need the 0.01SBD. Further, he said: it will not show up in the list though unless it makes a significant amount.
So, creating a new tag for your theme which has longevity ... you need to garner support from likeminded people. To the best of my knowledge it is only @sirwinchester who has his own tag! (let's all post under his tag!! - Joke)
At the same time, one of my bugbears on steemit is when I see a new recipe clogging up one of my go-to channels - 'news'. What was the author even thinking - or were they using a channel which has a lucrative history in the hope of snagging an opportunistic vote?
The tag/topic range is far too small and there is a disproportion of steemit-related tags.

I hope that rather than inventing whacky tags like 'ball-bearingphotosynthesis' which will just get github angry, that the good steemianistas out there will write under a tag which they will use and use and others will use and use.

I think I also vote @timcliff as a witness. I will check it out to be sure if not I will do it. I know that @sirwinchester has his own tag, but the main idea is that people should start using other tags that are not available or are not so popular. The best will be if they will make new tags and slowly people to adopt that tag when is necessary. Thanks a lot for this great comment. Cheers!
I like the idea, maybe like that people will use more related tags to their post, without intention to manipulate the most trending tags.
