A walk around Causeway Bay
Causeway Bay is Hong Kong's shopping mecca. Here you will find everything from top end global luxury brands, to budget affordable shops. One of the main shopping malls in Causeway Bay is called Times Square. During Chinese New Year, a pavilion was set up outside and mall and it was decorated with many ancient auspicious animals. I thought this was all a bit over the top but the tourists seems to love it.
Tourists loves Times Square as it has 13 floor full of shops, and another 4 floors of retaurants. There is so much to shop, eat and do here, and bound to be something suitable for every member of the family, young and old, men or women.
I didn't walk the entire mall when I went recently as it was jam packed with people, as it always is everywhere in Hong Kong. I took a few photos of the massive latern hanging from the center of the altrium, and window shopped some of the international luxury brands on the ground floor. The products inside were a bit too bling bling and loud for my taste, but there were still plenty of customers inside and more queuing to get in. I guess everyone have different taste, just that mine is different from theirs.
There are an abundance of shopping malls in Causeway Bay and next I went to one called Hysan Place. This is a newer mall compared to Times Square and caters for the younger generation hence most of the shops are mid range budget. Its a very spacious mall with a centre altrium which lets the light through from the ceiling into the entire mall.
Last and not the least, if you are in Causeway Bay, you have to go the Sogo department store. Sogo is the traditional center of Causeway Bay and has been at this location for decades before all the other flashy shopping malls were around. Today the crossing outside as well as the store itself is still a landmark and very representative of Hong Kong. It doesn't matter what time of the day you go, it's always very busy.
