Saint Nicholas museum is located near the Saint Nicholas Church.
You can get to the museum in the town center of Demre.
Museum of the Ancient Byzantine Greek Church
The attraction of this museum is to look at the beautiful mosaic designs & frescoes!
It is amazing that the colors still remain after so many centuries.
Another attraction is the oval opening at the top brings light to the ancient church.
The natural light helps you see the beautiful designs of the mosaic floor.
The mosaic designs are still well preserved since 520 A.D.
A little odeon theatre
This restored odeon theatre is remarkable.
Saint Nicholas Portrait
The importance of the museum is the legacy of Saint Nicholas.
It was believed that Saint Nicholas served here as a bishop.
This is believed to be his burial site.
A statue of St Nicholas is put outside of the museum.
Souvenir Shop
The souvenir shops have lots of things that are related to Santa Claus.
If you have kids, this is a great place to bring them here so that they learn about the history of Saint Nicholas.
