A fantastic night in Nagasaki.幻想的な長崎の夜

Nagasaki city is known as one of the leading tourist destinations in Japan. Because Nagasaki City has an unusual history in Japan.

For example, it was rare in Japan that Christianity was widely disseminated in Nagasaki. For example, in the days when trade was allowed only in Nagasaki, Nagasaki created its own culture with China, the Netherlands and Portugal. And in Nagasaki the atomic bomb was dropped.

In 2015 and 2018, a part of Nagasaki City's sightseeing spots were registered as World Heritage sites, so not only in Japan but also many foreign tourists visited Nagasaki City in recent years.Two of the world heritage sites in Nagasaki, Glover garden and Oura Catholic Church, I visited the evening for the first time in order to see the events decorated with illumination.

長崎市は日本でも有数の観光地として知られています。なぜなら長崎市は日本において異例な歴史を持っているからです。

例えば日本では珍しくキリスト教が広く布教され、その後迫害を受けた歴史。例えば貿易が禁止された時代に、長崎でのみ中国とオランダとの貿易が許されたため、文化が融合された歴史。そして原子爆弾が落とされた歴史。

2015年と2018年に長崎市の観光地の一部が世界遺産に登録されたこともあり、近年日本国内のみならず、多くの外国人観光客も長崎市を訪れています。今回は「明治日本の産業革命遺産」の一つグラバー邸と、「長崎と天草地方の潜伏キリシタン関連遺産」の一つ大浦天主堂が、イルミネーションで飾り付けされているとのことなので、初めて夜に訪れました。

To Oura Catholic Church, get off the "Oura Catholic Church" station on the streetcar and walking the slope for about 10 minutes to arrive. It was a church built to be dedicated to the martyrs who were originally persecuted.After the church was built, it is famous that the lurking Christians visited for worship.It is certified as a national treasure as the oldest Western architecture church in Japan. The viewing was until 17:30, so I only saw it from the outside.

大浦天主堂には、路面電車「大浦天主堂」駅を降りて、10分ほど坂を登ると着きます。もともと迫害を受けた殉教者に捧げられるために建設された教会で、公開後潜伏していたキリシタンが集うようになりました。日本最古の洋風建築教会として国宝に認定されています。観覧は17:30までですので外から見るだけでした。

Glover Garden is next to Oura Catholic Church.The Glover garden has been designated as an Important Cultural Asset. The 8 houses in the garden including the Glover House overlook Nagasaki harbor. Glover House is the oldest western-style wooden house existing in Japan.

グラバー園は大浦天主堂のすぐ隣にあります。16世紀後半スコットランドの商人「トーマス・ブレーク・グラバー」が邸宅として建築した洋風建築をはじめ、市内に残っていた歴史的建造物を移築した、野外博物館の様な場所です。

Glover garden usually closes at 18 o'clock, but Illuminations are decorated according to the Christmas season, and this season is open at night.

普段は18時に閉まるのですが、クリスマスシーズンに合わせてイルミネーションを飾り付け、この時期だけ夜間開園しています。

First we will climb the top of the slope with an escalator. It looks like it is climbing into the starry sky ('▽ `)

まずはエスカレーターで坂の1番上に登っていきます。まるで星空に登っていくようです( ´ ▽ ` )

As you climb up the slope the lighted-up garden spreads. It was my first time to come at night, but I felt fresh.

坂を登るとライトアップされた庭園が広がります。夜に来るのは初めてでしたが、新鮮な気分でした。

And Nagasaki City is famous for its beautiful night view as it is surrounded by mountains. Because it is on the hill, you can enjoy a beautiful night view.

そして長崎市は山々に囲まれていることから夜景が綺麗なことでも有名です。丘の上にあるので美しい夜景も楽しめます。

Christmas was already over at the time of visit, but I am lucky to see the Christmas tree. It was shining in the cold air of winter.

訪問時にはクリスマスはもう終わっていましたが、クリスマスツリーも見れてラッキーです。冬の冷たい空気の中、輝いていました。

Everywhere in the garden was decorated with illumination. Light snacks and so on are also on sale.

園内はいたるところがイルミネーションで装飾されていました。軽食なども販売されています。

In the Glover house, 3D projection mapping was held. It seems to be a work that imaged the history that occurred in Nagasaki.

メインとなるグラバー邸では、3Dプロジェクションマッピングが開催されていました。長崎に起きた歴史をイメージした作品だそうです。

I have visited Glover Garden many times since I was a young child, but I felt as though I had visited for the first time. Since it seems that some days of the year are opening at night, if you visit Nagasaki certainly please visit sightseeing!

幼い頃から何度も訪れたグラバー園でしたが、まるで初めて訪れたような気分になりました。1年のうち何日かは夜間開園しているようですので、ぜひ長崎を訪れた際は観光に訪れてください！
