Uniting the World

Can You Unite the Whole World?

This is the Tribesteemup biweekly question. If you are unfamiliar with the Tribe, it is an incredible, mutually supportive, community abundance group. We seek to support like-minded individuals by pooling our upvotes and adding in some generous donations of steem power from some truly amazing steemians. We support topics such as:

We want to help people who are impacting positive change in the world. You can check out our core values in this cool infographic. I have a lot of questions about this question, but I am going to make some assumptions. I try to avoid those. I had a chemistry teacher in high school who used to say assuming makes an ass of u and me. She was a character. In any case, I think at least some are safe assumptions. I will assume the you is plural and is not a reference to me specifically. I’m not totally sure what is meant by uniting, but I’m guessing the desire is to bring everyone to a shared action or belief, though it could mean more than one action or belief. Assumptions on what the “whole world” means are a little harder. Neurotypical, mentally well people only or really, literally everyone? Including kids? Babies? I mean, if we are talking toddlers, I don’t think you can get three of them to unite. In any case, I don’t guess it really matters because even if we are talking about neurotypical, mentally well adults, ...

My short answer is no. I don’t believe that’s possible, nor do I think it is desirable.

Honestly, even if we had a common threat like an asteroid or alien race, I just can’t see it. Some people would want to shoot all our collective fire power. Some would want to leave with them. Some would want to try to learn and negotiate. There are so many different viewpoints, world views, experiences, personalities, ideas, philosophies, and religions just for starters. There’s simply no way to unite everyone. I’m not totally sure we could unite about what color the sky is.

Why in the world would I think that is not desirable?

Now, that’s a next level. Saying it isn’t possible is one thing, but I think it would be terrible if everyone was united. I am envisioning a world of medium brown milk toast. It sounds so boring.

Most of you know I am on a big metaphysics kick lately. One of the most important tenets is that of contrast. In the contrast we see in the world, we learn what we do and don’t want. Knowing that is how we determine what we want to do to move the world forward, to leave our mark on the world. We see violence or hunger or abuse, and we decide that doesn’t feel right. We want to do something to make that better. There will always be more too! There’s always a next thing to make better or achieve, but without contrast there is nothing.

I know it seems like a nice idea if everyone would agree on at least something, if we could unite over ending violence, maybe. I am certain that one day we will have a majority of people on that train. Eventually we will realize that

Force is the weapon of the weak.

However, it will never be the whole world. There will always be those who disagree. There will always be those who are violent. It will take some time to even get to a majority, but our diversity is what makes us wonderful. Sometimes it’s frustrating, but it’s part of how we evolve.

Much love, y’all!
