You and your tribe.

You belong to a tribe, and you're unwilling to give up your tribal allegiance. Same with me. Same with everyone.

Okay, so what now? How do we move forward, knowing as we do with our most rational parts that our tribe may be objectively mistaken? How do we deal with people who are not of our tribe and never will be?

Remain a member of your tribe. Do the best you can to make it honest, modest, and curious. Send out tribal signals like mad, and glory in the tribal signals of your companions. But urge them to honesty, modesty, and curiosity. Work so that a representative member of your tribe, if placed onstage with representative members of other tribes, would impress an anthropologist from Mars as being the least tribal of all.

And when anything resembling this happens, cheer for your tribe.
