Travel Tip: Sovinec Castle, one of the most impressive castles in the Czech Republic

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to show you one of the largest and most beautiful castles of the country, the famous Sovinec Castle.

Located some 14 km (9 mi) outside the town of Rymarov in the Moravian part of the country, the Sovinec Castle is a large stone castle that was built at the end of the 13th century. Sovinec was built in the late Gothic architectural style but later on, both Renaissance and Baroque features were added to it.

During the 19th century, the castle was deteriorating as the building material was being dismantled and sold but fortunately, conservational efforts prevented it from total destruction and in 1958, the castle was listed as a National Cultural Monument.

Now governed by the nearby Bruntal Museum, the Sovinec Castle is home to numerous cultural events, festivals, fairs, medieval fencing performances and many more.

A guided tour of the castle costs 100 CZK (4 EUR / 5 USD) per adult person, kids and retired people pay just half the price.

As usual, the moment I finished reading your post I started searching more on the Sovinec Castle. Built in the 14th century this castle truly deserves to be in the historical landmark that it is.

But what hurt me was the fact that the original structure had deteriorated not not just of natural causes but due to greed of a few small people. As @czechglobalhosts mentions, thankfully that was stopped by the Czech people.

I found a few pictures on the internet that if you carefully see shows the change in the structure over time. First is the Drawing of Sovinec Castle in 1848 (by FA Heber):

Second is a recent photo:

If you compare them we can see several changes that have occurred just in the past 170 years.

Wow! Nice job, I am truly impressed!

Dekuji moc!

@czechglobalhosts Your post promoting is actually supporting .your travel trip series is better to support .

Wow. Its so beautiful. Czech republic is most beautiful place in the world. All time I like your post bcz of its beauty. Great one.. 👍👌

Agreed, it sure is:).....

I just add that there was one of the first forestry schools in Moravia ;-)

Thanks for your addition, great info!

Looks a great cultural heritage of your country! It was sad to hear about its deterioration but really fortunate to see not destructed completely. Its current look doesn't show up in any mean that it was once damaged. Maybe it is because it is well maintained and cared by authorities afterwards.

I have to say that our governments takes a good care of our heritage..... we sure are lucky......

That's a beautiful castle! I wonder what it looks like on the inside. I guess I have to travel there to find out? ;)

A very interesting history this castle has, first it was about to destroy and then someone purchase it in 1958, and then it was reserved for events etc, Good to know that, and the best is that, half charges for kids and old age fellow. I hope i will visit this castle too!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful historical place.

The castles look majestic and beautiful, thanks for the pictures =) The architecture is amazing!
