The largest karst waterfall in Bulgaria

in #travelp5 years ago (edited)

I already wrote about a Bulgarian waterfall and some people were surprised at its micro size. To finally clarify the situation I will show the largest karst waterfall in Bulgaria

This is Zhitolyub Waterfall in the Vrachanski Balkan nature reserve

In the spring in Bulgaria you can admire the various waterfalls. There are waterfalls-jumps, which, as if jumping from the mountain, as if on the eco-trail of Vazovsk, and there are karst, like the Zhitolyub, flowing from the caves.

Zhitolyub Waterfall is located at the foot of the Lakatnish rocks, under the Temnatupka cave at 8 meters above the Iskar River.

Zhitoljub is considered the largest karst spring in Bulgaria and comes from the underground rivers Petransk and Proboynitsa, which pass through the dark floors of the cave. In heavy rain, the waterfall produces 1200 liters of water per second. That's probably why they call him the biggest.

Getting to Zhitolyub is very simple - it is located 58 kilometers from Sofia on the road called the Iskar defile. The road is beautiful, good and comfortable, it only dodges too, so I recommend that those who suffer from motion sickness be reserved with special means.

Restaurant Cave

Near the waterfall there is ample and free parking, a restaurant Paverata, free toilet and an artificial lake.

An artificial lake filled with an underground key. The water here is very cold.

Travelers always stop at this place to have a bite and go to the toilet, as well as those who float down the Iskar River. From here, some beautiful hiking trails climb into the mountains.

The nature reserve of Vrachanski Balkan is literally oversaturated with natural beauty and cultural attractions. It is not only full of ecological paths, waterfalls, lakes, caves and beautiful rocks, but also churches, monasteries, museums and fortresses. So the place to visit is very worthwhile, especially since it is so close to Sofia.

If you will be offered an organized excursion to the Vrachanski Balkan on the Iskar defile, never refuse - the places here are magnificent.

All the photos were taken by me personally in one Sofia autumn.

Thank you for your time and attention.
