Welcome back everyone to part #6 of my travels up the Krka river situated here in Dalmatia. For those of you tuning in for the first time, there are more of these posts the last one of a huge waterfall you can check out here and a bunch of other topics mostly history related here @zija2022. Some of you noticed maybe some new details in my post. Yes, I made a cover photo and changed the Headline of the post. I hope it is for the better, my intent was to get recognized more in the see of posts out there on Steemit.

Last time we visited the Manojlovac waterfall on the Krka river.

We left Manojlovac and took the D59 state road for about 6 km to the east it is just a few minutes away. In Radučić village we took a left turn, right after the restaurant Kod Pere on the side of the road. The road to Bilušića buk is rebuilt with new pavement. Be aware of the railroad crossing although trains rarely drive in Dalmatia it is better to stop take a look left and right because there is no signalization by the crossing. after a short drive, you will come across a few houses and you will see the sign for Bilušić buk. It will look like you missed it but you are there 😎 on the small path where you can leave your car. As last time and all around the Krka river you need to walk down to the waterfall from the top of the canyon. The hike down on an old path used by the people living here for hundreds of years, so I recommend hiking shoes and water a lot of water to be safe.

The Glagolitic letter Ⰰ = A, upside down or just naturally occurring lines in stone 😄

As it is winter time here in Dalmatia it is pretty windy the Bora wind hits hard and cold especially in the hinterland and in higher altitudes. Temperatures in the sun are tolerable for winter and as we got down to the river we needed to take our jackets off it was so warm.
The way down on the serpentine path took us about 15 minutes and like on the other trips you should take in the surroundings.There are a few details that will catch your eye. First of all, we noticed some of the vegetation almost blooming which is unusual being winter and all. The second we noticed was some carved letters on some of the rocks on the path. Nothing unusual you say hikers do such things all the time. But these are not letters known to you and are not part of the Latin alphabet. The letters are from the Glagolitic script which was in use here for a few hundred years.

As we got down to the waterfall I entered wonderland the area was overtaken by nature the wind stopped blowing, small creeks left and right diverted from the waterfall even some benches to hang out. Nature changing colors from gray, green to brown a wonderful sight I can tell you. The first thing we noticed was the abandoned watermill, which is probably not renovated for the time being and will stay that way for probably a few more years. We peeked inside and it looks like everything you need to grind corn is there, a bit rundown but still with a little elbow grease it would be manageable.

These mills can be found all over the Krka river used by the people for hundreds of years probably since the Roman times. The first mention of these mills written down date back to the middle ages 13th century. Such watermills are not unique to the Krka and can be found on almost every Karstic river in Dalmatia. For those of you who visited Skradinski buk probably saw one there. Most of the mills were owned by noble families during the middle ages and a few which were communal. The watermills on the Krka river are an important part of the cultural heritage of the area as they were used not just by locals but by the entire Dalmatian coastline.

The surroundings of the Bilušić waterfall is just amazing, nature almost retaking the place. One can imagine almost how it all looked during the past. Overgrown dry stone walls with paths, smaller creeks, and ponds. Also, the tuffa stone which can be noticed around show you how the ecosystem is everchanging and it will outlast us all.

Stay tuned for the next post I will show you one Bilušić waterfall, other wise the post would get to long and boring.
