Wild Wednesday's: Memories of Madagascar Part 5
Hello Steemian Friends,
How's it? Hope all is good, and that you are looking forward to today's post! It's Wednesday which means Becca is writing today! Hello :) I was actually planning to write this post while sipping on a Gin and Tonic, but Sam gave me the stare as it would be my second glass this evening. I'm still thinking about serving myself one though haha
Anyway, I will carry on writing about my time spent in Madagascar! Last week I wrote about the seagrass surveys that ReefDoctor gets involved with and the research they carry out on a 3 monthly basis. Today I will write about a short day trip that some of the other volunteers and myself went on. It was basically a long walk, we walked from the ReefDoctor base camp in towards the land behind it. This was where the Spiny Forest and the Baobab Forest are.
We left camp just after breakfast, and one of the permanent local staff came with us, he was our "tour guide" for the day. We walked along salt-marshes and soon arrived in the forests. Along the walk to the forests you could already start to see the gigantic baobab trees as well as the long branches of the spiky cactus looking trees. It was hot and dry, and the ground was still sandy from being close to the sea shore.
We hope you have enjoyed reading and looking at this post! It was a good day out and quite interesting to learn about a new ecosystem in Southwest Madagascar!

Thank you @bohohobo! Becca is the only person that you have chatted to that has been. Sam hasn't (yet). It's on his list, but it's more difficult to get around Africa than other continents. Sam managed to do three countries in three months, but usually it's one country at a time. We hope you do manage to visit Madagascar and the 'neighboring' islands like Comoros, Reunion and Mauritius one day. Thanks for your compliment and we hope to keep on inspiring ;)

It's not that far from your beloved South Africa. The baobabs are strange plants, but really cool!

Wow what an amazing trip so many different scenaries and damn those photos look good! One question, did you try to eat that honey?
It was an incredible experience for Becca to get involved in all the different voluntary activities.
Yes, Becca did try the honey. It was very light and clear, but she cannot remember the taste.

Impressive vegetation and that baobab. That sunset among baobabs is remarkable . The second and the third remind me the mediterranean vegetation.
It is quite impressive and that's cool that the pictures remind you of the Mediterranean. 😊

I had no idea they have baobab trees in Madagascar. I thought they were only in West Africa lol. Most of the ones I've seen out west, don't get as tall as the Madagascan ones, but are much much thicker.
It's native to Madagascar too, but like you said it's different from what you are used to in West Africa. Would love to see a shorter and thicker Baobab tree 😊 They are such interesting looking trees.
