Behind 953 Royal Windows - A Peep inside 'Hawa Mahal'

in #travelfeed5 years ago

This one is out of my old collection from Jaipur city. A royal visit that gives us a royal feeling. Jaipur, Rajasthan is royal state of India. It is 5hrs journey from Delhi Airport. Jaipur city is also known as Pink City, because most of the old city architecture are made up of Red stone giving a Pinkish look to entire city. One of the most admired and visited place is the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds. A royal palace made up of 953 Jharokas or small windows.

Yes these are one of those 953 windows made up by then ruler Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh for the Royal Ladies / Women's to watch the busy city life or the Street's Festival through these windows. I would say the parda system, the old customary system where Indians women's were not allowed to go in public. They can enjoy by remaining behind a veil. The structure is more like one of them, where the Royal Ladies can watch the city proceedings but no one can watch them.

Hawa Mahal is one of the prominent landmark in Jaipur city. Especialy due the Red sandstone architecture which has 5 storey and shape of a beehive.

Many people resemble the architecture with the crown of Lord Krishna. With so many designer looks. While the front face of the architecture is quitely shows the royalish looks that was built in 1799. The inside has pretty open look. With small gallery's to walk for the ladies to reach to the windows. Also the stairs were not so large and wide. Those were very small passage like one at a time.

Standing on one of the windows, I saw the street and quitely imagines the old times, when that use to be the main market place, which is now pretty much occupied with vehicles and public. However, there are still small shops open within the roads selling local handlooms and artefacts.

On the other side , standing on top of the Hawa Mahal, you could see the entire city. Now been populated, but I am sure it used to be a open place during the royal time.

The palace is awesome, and you will experience quite windy on the top storey. However, you need to be safe from he fellow allies. They are in abundance at this place and quitely following you.

Over all, the palace is a good place to capture lots of moments and memory. It is a good place to peep inside the complete city, and at same time may give give you royal feel too. Enjoy the Winds and Royalness.

Hawa Mahal or the 'Palace Of The Winds' located in the heart of the beautiful Pink City of Jaipur in Rajasthan, India, is one of the most famous tourist attractions and a prominent landmark of the city that is renowned for its rich cultural and architectural history. Built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of the Kachhwaha Rajput dynasty, this beautiful structure is predominantly a high screen wall made of pink and red sandstone that facilitated royal women to get an eyeful of the street festivals and busy city life while remaining out of the view of public. This five-storey building in the shape of a crown of Lord Krishna with 953 jharokhas or windows and a beautifully decorated façade resembling a honeycomb of a beehive that gives one a feel of the rich heritage of the Rajputs.

Such a beautiful place. It's interesting how old architecture looks so bright in some countries, yet so dark in others. Must be something to do with the climate.

More importantly such architecture are still standing tall even after so many years...making a landmark for all
