USA roadtrip #24: Las Vegas - Hate it or love it [EN|GER]

Las Vegas is a very polarizing city. Whether you want to stay longer or never come back depends on a few factors that have to be considered.

Hotel

Let's start with the hotel of your stay. On the website 10xtravel.com is a helpful graphic that illustrates the Strip:

The green area shows the center of the strip and thus the best location. In this area there are the most beautiful hotels, the best restaurants and the greatest shows. Accordingly are the prices of the hotels.

A good value for your money you will get at the hotels in the yellow zone. Here we can recommend the MGM Grand, which offers cheap prices regularly and is within walking distance to the center. The hotel is not very spectacular but has a really nice and big pool.

As hotels take a large part of their revenue from their casinos, the prices for accommodation and food are more than adequate compared with the high standard.

If you want to stay cheap in Vegas in the red zones or even further away from the strip, keep in mind that the way to the center means either a very long walk or an expensive taxi. However, many of these hotels also offer a shuttle service which takes their guests to the Strip and back at certain times.

Gambling

What sounds totally reasonable we mention for safety's sake again: Play only with as much money as you can really afford and stick to a previously picked limit!

While playing at the casino, (alcoholic) drinks are for free. If you give the waitresses an adequate tip, you will make sure that they come by regularly and your glass won’t be empty for too long.
Depending on how high your budget is, not all casinos are suitable for playing. For example, in the more upscale casinos (Cesar’s Palace, Bellagio, etc.) bets at the roulette tables begin at $ 25, while in other hotels (Excalibur, Luxor, etc.) they start at $ 5.

Eating

If you like to eat, you are spoiled for choice in Las Vegas. Almost every hotel offers an all-you-can-eat buffet with a huge selection. As already mentioned, the price-performance ratio is usually very good, but be aware that at a buffet for $ 10, the quality can’t be that great.
With these huge variety of food, it happens fast that you eat too much and then the whole evening is done. So do not make the same mistake ;)

Duration

An important point is also the duration of your stay, because less is more ;)
2 - 3 nights are enough. For longer stays, the city begins to be annoying ;)

Las Vegas ist eine sehr polarisierende Stadt. Ob ihr nach eurem Besuch wieder kommen oder die Stadt lieber großräumig umfahren wollt, hängt von ein paar Faktoren ab die es dazu zu beachten gibt.

Hotel

Los geht es mit dem Hotel für eure Übernachtung. Auf der Seite 10xtravel.com gibt es eine hilfreiche Grafik, die den Strip gut veranschaulicht:

Der grüne Bereich zeigt das Zentrum des Strips und damit die beste Lage. In diesem Bereich gibt es die schönsten Hotels, besten Restaurants und größten Shows. Dementsprechend sind auch die Preise der Hotels.

Eine gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis sind die Hotels in der gelben Zone. Hier können wir das MGM Grand empfehlen, das hin und wieder günstige Übernachtungen anbietet und in Laufweite zum Zentrum liegt. Das Hotel ist zwar nicht sonderlich spektakulär hat aber einen echt schönen und großen Pool.

Da die Hotels einen großen Teil ihrer Einnahmen aus dem Casinobetrieb ziehen, sind die Preise für Übernachtungen und Essen verglichen mit den hohen Standards mehr als angemessen.

Wer besonders günstig in Vegas unterkommen möchte und in den roten Zonen übernachtet oder noch weiter abseits des Strips sollte bedenken, dass der Weg ins Zentrum entweder einen sehr langen Fußmarsch bedeutet oder nicht ganz billiges Taxi. Viele dieser Hotels bieten allerdings auch einen Shuttle-Service an, welcher die Gäste zu bestimmten Zeiten an den Strip und wieder zurück bringt.

Glücksspiel

Was zwar logisch klingt und sich viele vor ihrem Las Vegas Besuch vornehmen, erwähnen wir sicherheitshalber trotzdem noch einmal: Setzt nur so viel Geld wie ihr auch wirklich entbehren könnt und haltet euch dabei an ein vorher vereinbartes Limit!

Während ihr im Casino spielt sind (alkoholische) Getränke kostenlos. Wenn ihr den Bedienungen ein angemessenes Trinkgeld gebt, stellt ihr sicher, dass diese sich auch regelmäßig blicken lassen und ihr nicht auf dem Trockenen sitzt.
Je nachdem wie hoch euer Budget ist eignen sich nicht alle Casinos zum Spielen. So beginnen beispielsweise in den gehobeneren Casinos (Cesars Palace, Bellagio, etc.) die Einsätze am Roulettetisch bei $25 während sie in anderen Hotels (Excalibur, Luxor etc.) bereits bei $5 losgehen.

Essen

Wenn ihr gerne essen geht habt ihr in Las Vegas die Qual der Wahl. Fast jedes Hotel bietet ein All-you-can-eat-Buffet mit riesiger Auswahl. Auch hier ist wie erwähnt das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis meistens sehr gut, aber seid euch bewusst, dass bei einem Buffet für $10 auch die Qualität entsprechend ist. Bei der riesigen Auswahl an Speisen kann es schnell passieren, dass man zu viel isst und dann den ganzen Abend träge ist. Also macht nicht den selben Fehler ;)

Dauer

Ein wichtiger Punkt ist auch die Dauer eures Aufenthalts, denn weniger ist mehr ;)
2 – 3 Nächte sind völlig ausreichend. Bei längeren Aufenthalten fängt die Stadt an euch auf die Nerven zu gehen ;)
