Arrábida is one of the most beautiful protected areas in Portugal. Here you can find fantastic deserted beaches between the blue of the sea and the green of the mountains. You can also walk the various walking paths, watch dolphins in the Sado estuary and visit some monuments.

Another fantastic option to discover this region is to opt for an outdoor hike, doing some of Arrábida's many trails. Arrábida Natural Park extends along the line linking Sesimbra to Setúbal.

Serra da Arrábida is a Natural Park since 1976 with a surface of 10.521 hectares and an altitude of 501 meters. In addition to the beautiful beaches and landscapes, the park is home to numerous rare species and beautiful caves.

When visiting Serra da Arrábida, start at the top of the road N379-1 (towards Arrábida Convent see map below) to admire the beautiful landscapes the park has to offer.

Be sure to stop by the side of the road to admire the sea and mountain views. The viewpoints are not marked, but you will find along the road several places where you can park the car.

In addition to the viewpoints, you can visit the Convent of Arrábida that was built in the century by Friar Martinho de Santa Maria, a Spanish Franciscan to whom D. João de Lencastre (1501-1571), first of Aveiro, gave the lands of the mountain (25 hectares ).

Built in 1542 by the first Duke of Aveiro, D. João de Lencastre, it was built to house the Franciscan monks. The monastic constructions constitute a harmonious nucleus and well integrated in the mountains. From the primitive building one can still see the chapels of the "old convent", built on the hillside.

Few beaches along the Portuguese coast offer images as worthy of postcard as Arrábida beaches do. The crystal clear waters surrounded by greenery and white sand make anyone jealous.

Wow such beautiful coastline!! Resteemed

Portugal has a very beautiful coast. I can say that I'm lucky to live in a country with a lot of nature :) Thanks for resteemed.

Eu adoro estas praias :) Estive o ano passado por esta zona e adorei! Quando voltar o calor acho que vou dar novamente lá um salto!
Abraço @pardinus

May I take the oppotunity here to respond to this post with an appeal for loads more information on where it's best to go, for a more permanent stay, in this stunning country! (Clearly it's what Portugalcoin does every day, tempt us to visit Portugal, but I am hoping for someone to react more specifically to my inquiries). I wonder if there is a better community out here on Steemit I might appeal to, would you know?

In dire need of salt water for my friend, or at least a sparkling lake close at hand, and plenty of sun for us both and much peace and quiet for him to recuperate from some serious physical ailments, I am looking to emigrate to Portugal, so this post surely caught my attention.

A cascade of questions in response to the promising pictures! Where might one find relatively affordable properties around here (land inwards probably)? Would there be a welcoming community for expats (I presume nobody can be as xenophobic as the Brits)? A need for English speakers specifically around the nature reserves (tour guides/translators/administrative functions in conservation work)? And would the sea be as inviting to swim/dive in as it looks to the inexperienced me? (I guess the Atlantic gets nippy around winter time?). Would an ultra experienced deep-sea diver & sailor (of all vessles) be particularly useful in a sea-faring nature or tremendously superfluous?

Currently we have very vague options in Cascais (but too expensive really) or we are hopeful there might be some realistic opportunities around Oporto.

I am sure Portugalcoin are not a travel or estate agent! Let alone an immigration service. But who knows who might read your post and the comments and might pick up my request for more tips and tricks....

Alentejo for peace :), and the coastline beachs are great there even to just walk on. On Algarve you can do scuba diving probably easier than other places because of some demand and people doing it there but the stays (and everything else) might be expensive, it will start to get a bit colder from now on pretty much everywhere. Other areas also (like this one pictured) do it but less, i didn't understood if you mean with being experienced or not, i'm really not anyway.
For good prices or longer stays you might want to look at the center or even more inland, places like Leiria, Coimbra, Tomar and there more inland Sertã, Vila de Rei and many more. ;)

Put down the names on my list of places to visit on upcoming scouting tour. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to reply in such detail!

Hi @sukhasanasister,
I 'm not a travel or real estate agent or immigration service but I can help with any questions you have.

The city of Porto at this time to have a home is more expensive, but the city of Lisbon or Algarve is even more expensive. For someone who wants to relax these places aren't a good idea.

In my opinion, the cheapest areas in Portugal are the inland areas of the country. In the north and center inland, winter is more aggressive, but not so much in the Alentejo. Temperatures are milder in winters but in much warmer summer.

The Alentejo also has the advantage of being very calm and not far from the Portuguese capital Lisbon.

Hope this helps.

This most definitely helps! Thank you so much. I had not thought about Alentejo before, but your post has prompted a new enthusiasm to keep looking not too far from Lisboa: after all I think older people coming from North-West Europe might need a bit of city close by.... and WHAT a city it is supposed to be, I have heard! (I personally may always be more of a city-slicker than my friend anyway, so a combination location would be ideal).

Beautiful beach ,blue ocean and side view just evergreen, overall nice .
