Christmas everywhere

On Wednesday we went to Maastricht for dinner and I didn't even realize that there would be a Christmas market too. We didn't see it when we entered the city but when we walked up to the street from the underground parking we happened to be in the middle of the market. Of course, we had to walk around before going to dinner. And I didn't even mind that we would be late for dinner which we really were at the end.

There were many stalls selling stroopwaffels, chocolate, wooden decorations, sweets, chestnuts, mulled wine, punch and many other winter products. There were also some restaurants and bars inside of wooden houses which will be dissembled after Christmas.

People were standing around bar tables, enjoying their drinks and having fun with their friends and family. Others enjoyed shopping and there were many people like me walking around and taking photos of every single decoration.

Here is one of the restaurants which were built just for this occasion.

It was too cold for the Ferris wheel but it was still nice to look at it as it was changing colors every few seconds.

Another Santa! I think that in the last three days I've seen more Santas than in my entire life.

The street around the Christmas market was beautifully decorated too. I was surprised to see so many bicycles. I would never want to drive it in such cold. It was 0 degrees!

The Christmas market is situated at the Vrijthof square. This square is dominated by the Basilica of Saint Servatius and St. John Church. It's such a beautiful setting! I haven't been to Maastricht before and seeing it with the Christmas market for the first time was an amazing experience.

I've been a fan of Christmas markets but I have realized that it was because the ones that I've seen before were not that nice. Look at this! Who wouldn't like it?

You can find many traditional and also not that traditional presents inside of this house, so let's have a look.

I was very tempted to get one of those guys and decided to get one when we come back from dinner if I don't forget about it. Well, I forgot about it, so probably I didn't want it as much as I initially thought.

There were so many of these cute houses but I wonder who would buy it. It's boring to get just one, so if you want it you have to get the whole village 😊

My favorite stall was the one with warm waffles. I'm still hoping that they will start selling the vegan version as well.

Each entrance/exit had either a huge star or a Christmas ball.

I've had a great time this week in The Netherlands. It's been so cold and windy, and I think I'm probably getting a flu but it was all worth it. I've seen beautiful cities and amazing Christmas markets and now it's time to go back home. Later today, we will be driving back home for the weekend. I can't wait to lie down in my bed again!
