The Chimborazo has also been called King of the Ecuadorian Andes, because it surpasses all the volcanoes and hills of the country, where mountaineering is practiced, which is a mountain sport. The Liberator Simón Bolívar, was one of the first to practice it, and was so in love with the colossus and its beauty, that he wrote a famous poem called: My delirium in Chimborazo. To climb the volcano it is necessary to bring mountaineering equipment.

The flora and fauna present in the volcano and around, the best known plants are ferns, Azorella pads, gentians, chocho flower, mosses and lichens and the most outstanding fauna is typical of the moor, such as deer, llamas, vicuñas, deer, small rabbits, wolf moor mice, the cervicabra, among the birds are eagles, the king of the Andes the condor and other birds. Many of these species, moreover, are not found in any other country in the world, that is, they are endemic to Ecuador.
