Each city, of course, should have its own symbol, and even more than one. The symbol of the city is the object that is depicted on magnets, postcards, t-shirts, and many other Souvenirs. The symbol is considered to be the historical place where tourists and guests of the city seek to get in the first place, to make a couple of three photos for a long memory of their journey, and the newlyweds take their walks.

One of these symbols of Odessa is the famous Opera house, built in 1810, which, unfortunately already in 1873 as a result of the fire was completely burned. But quite wealthy and well-known inhabitants of Odessa did not accept this state of Affairs and decided to build a new Opera house. The new building of the theater was built almost from scratch in 1873 and has retained its original appearance to our time.

On the project of the Odessa theater of modern works by famous Hungarian architects Ferdinand Fellner and Herman Helmer. The building of the Opera house in Dresden, built four years earlier by architect Gottfried Semper, was taken as a model. But since the construction of the Odessa Opera house went remotely without the personal presence of Hungarian architects, some details had to be improved and supplemented by local specialists.

As a result, all this architectural masterpiece cost Odessa a good half million rubles, but the entire Opera house was fully equipped with the latest technology.

The opening of the Opera and ballet theatre took place on October 1, 1887.
