4 places in CYPRUS that will STICK TO your memory
✌️I have delayed my trip to Cyprus for several years. In love with the Greek climate, I succumbed to his charm. Until one day, I decided to leave. And I felt like at home!
Cyprus is an ideal place for both leisure and sightseeing. The sun shines here over 300 days a year, and the multitude of monuments of antiquity, landscapes and blue beaches will let you feel wonderful.
Below I present to you a list of 4 places that in my opinion are worth visiting while on the island and which will surely be remembered. Of course, there are definitely more of these places, this is just my subjective opinion.
1. The Royal Tombs
The Royal Tombs are one of those places in Paphos, which you must necessarily choose. The word "Royal" is somewhat exaggerated here, because it was created in a time in which there were no kings in Cyprus, that is in the 3rd century BC.
From the beginning, great city citizens were buried here, building huge, richly decorated tombs, carved in rocks (found in the vast majority under the surface of the earth). Until our times, only a few burial chambers have survived in an untouched form, most often due to the fact that their entries have collapsed as a result of the passage of time. In them were found paintings, golden ornaments or antique amphorae. What survived until the beginning of the 20th century was stolen during thieving excavations.
The tombs carved into the solid rock in the complex are about a hundred!
The necropolis is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The tombs are located somewhat out of the way of the city, hence they do not throw too much in the eye. They occupy a huge surface, so you need some time to see the whole area.
If you are in Paphos, you want to see a beautiful monument - be sure to visit the tombs!
2. Petra tou Romiou - Aphrodite's Rock
If you are fans of mythology - this place is perfect for you!
All you need is a distance of about 20 kilometers from Paphos. According to the Greek myths, it was at this place that the goddess of beauty and abundance - Aphrodite - would emerge from the sea foam. It seems that when she came ashore, everywhere she touched the ground, beautiful flowers sprouted with her delicate feet. It is because of Afrodyta that Cyprus is often called the Island of Love. Near the rock there is also a cave where supposedly mythical beauty was supposed to take a bath.
According to legends, circumnavigation of the Rock of Aphrodite with its other half provides eternal youth and love to the newcomer. Well worth it! :)
The water here is crystal clear, although it has a stony bottom. In the season you will meet crowds of people here. I was absolutely unaffected by being in September.
Today's name Petra tou Romiou is also translated as "Rock of the Greek". It is about the Greek by Digenis Akritas, who, in accordance with the heroic epics written in the fifties of the 11th century, had rocks such as the Rock of Aphrodite darting in the approaching Arabian pirates in the seventh century.
This is one of the most famous places in Cyprus, so you must come here!
3. Salt lake in Larnaca
The lake found in my statement more as a curiosity. You can meet here ... flamingos. But only in colder months. In the summer the lake dries up completely leaving behind a huge area ... of salt. This is in fact a complex of four lakes, three of which are interconnected - Lake Aliki Orphani, Sorosa and Spiro.
The surrounding areas are included in the Natura 2000 program and are under protection. The place is a habitat for almost a hundred different species of birds and is their migration corridor.
The place is impressive! It is worth to choose from curiosity while traveling to Larnaca.
4. Ayia Napa
Ayia Napa is a well-known resort in the eastern part of the island. It's a kind of party room where crowds of young people come to play. In season - the city bursts at the seams. It drew my attention not because you can have a hard time here - has a beautiful beach - Nissi Beach. The word nissi in Greek means the island. The beach is fabulous, heavenly.
I am just a fanatic of beautiful beaches. These are my places on earth where I feel great. Nissi beach can certainly be one of the best in the world where I had the opportunity to lie and take a bath.
The beach is approx. 600 m long and sometimes even 40 m wide and is made up of soft, golden, fine sand. Descent to the sea is very gentle, you have to go a bit far to feel the depth.
For lovers of beaches and paradise views - the perfect place! I recommend with a clear conscience.
