Magical corners of Río Lobos
'Nature and its rivers, its lakes and its landscapes were also the expression of Mother Earth, the Great Mother ...' (1)
Immense, mysterious, spectacular, sublime, immeasurable, magical, imposing, exceptional, grandiose, enigmatic, mysterious, supreme, categorical, arcane, primordial, prolific ... the list of adjectives would be really endless if we had to do a grammar exercise that would describe the characteristics of a surprising place that extends, like an enormous spine, along thirty kilometers, between two very specific provinces of Old Castile, such as Soria and Burgos: the Cañon del Río Lobos.
Virtually unknown to the general public until its rediscovery by those intrepid researchers of magical and mysterious Spain in the late seventies and early eighties, the Rio Lobos Canyon and the wonders it holds have attracted the attention of a world that he still believes in life beyond the large urbanized hives where he vegetates and labors in vitiated environments, but where he has also acquired pernicious customs that he later exports shamelessly.
In this respect, it is still a great paradox that while speaking of quality of life, relating it not only to the socio-political world but also to the environment in which it lives, apply the most sordid side of cynicism, destroying, with an incomprehensible lack of respect and sensitivity other natural environments to which I should venerate possibly in the same way as those ancient cultures did, such as the Celts, to whom we owe so much and whom in our ignorance, we still continue to call barbarians, as foreigners, which was really the meaning given to such a word by the supposedly refined Romans, but as savages.
Chiselled with care for millennia by a supernatural but sublime artist, called Erosion, the Lobos River Canyon has a profusion of corners of extraordinary beauty, being one of the secret places he chose to settle, in the late twelfth century, an order medieval monks warriors-the Knights Templar-whose activities still continue to be an enigma to this day.
Another of the many peculiarities of this fascinating place - if we are to believe the claims of the late researcher Juan García Atienza (2) - is that, interestingly, the Cañon del Río Lobos is located at an equidistant distance from the northernmost headlands of the Peninsula. Iberian: the one of Finisterre and the one of Creus, place this last one, by which painters like Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí, felt a more than deep devotion.
Therefore, dear reader, if you like what you see and have read in this article and the video that complements it and one day you decide to approach this immeasurable place and its fascinating surroundings, remember it very well: enjoy this wonder that so prolifically Mother Earth offers, but never behave like a savage. Who knows, maybe even the Old Gods who live in the place, bless you for it and make your trip a rewarding and extraordinary experience.
