[Seoul] War memorial

in #travelfeed6 years ago

If you remember, I told you about korean language courses in South Korea, and I told you that in some universities there are cultural lessons in the open air? Now I'll tell you and show you how one of these lessons was during my studies at the University of Foreign Languages HUFS. </ Em>

In Korea, you can often meet groups of students or students in museums and parks. Because educational institutions try to periodically organize cultural outings outside the school, the institution, and even the kindergarten. For the youngest, too, there are very interesting museums or parks where they can not only chew on the granite of science, but also frolic on the loose!

Yes, and I am of the opinion that in practice everything is assimilated much faster and easier!

Once we were all gathered and taken to the Military Museum . This trip happened even at the very beginning of my life and studying in Korea, so the trips on public transport were also a kind of adventure and a chelenge, which we carried out successfully.

And now, I'll tell you about the museum itself.

In general, it is more correct to call this museum "War Memorial" (전쟁 기념관) , this is how it is translated from the Korean language. The entrance to the museum is free , and is one of the reasons why you can add it to the list of places that you can visit during your visit to Korea. And if you are a fan of different military equipment, including airplanes, helicopters, tanks, ships, then you definitely need to visit this museum. On the outside of the museum there is a reconstructed and neutralized military equipment, which remained in South Korea after the war.

The opening of the Military Memorial took place in 1993, just 25 years ago, in memory of the military history of Korea. Once on the site of the museum was the headquarters of the Korean army.

I already hinted at the external exhibits and showed you, but now let me take you to the interior of the memorial.

Inside the museum is divided into 6 exhibition halls. Perhaps the most important hall can be called the first hall - where on the marble tiles the names of all those who died in this or that Korean war are stamped out.

Next comes the hall with different types of weapons, beginning with the Paleolithic era. And modern weapons are exhibited in another hall.

Very important is the hall, which tells about the most tragic war - between brothers, between North and South Korea.

The fourth hall of the museum is equipped with modern media technology, and here the Koreans tried to show clearly, on video clips, with all possible special effects (smell of gunpowder, smoke, sounds), different battles and battles. We must admit that the Koreans know this very well. In this room, it seems that you suddenly found yourself in the middle of the battlefield and around you sweep soldiers and bullets whistle ...

In addition to exhibits dedicated to the military history of Korea, the museum also has a lecture hall, which regularly hosts open lectures and seminars. True, they are all in Korean, although I will not be surprised that lectures will soon appear in foreign languages. At least in the Chinese language, you can safely conduct such lectures.

Last year, in one of these lecture halls, a seminar was held on the island of Dokdo, which Japan and Korea are still arguing about. Two countries can not come to a consensus on the geographic belonging of the island. In Korea there is even an association engaged in research and study of questions concerning this island.

The largest exhibit inside the museum is the Kobukson ship, which was built by the great general, Lee Sun-Sin, during the battle with Japan.

On the first floor of the museum there is a bookstore, which contains a variety of books and encyclopedias about the wars and history of Korea. I remember two years ago, at the entrance to the museum, thick books about the Korean war were distributed free of charge. The books were in 3 languages (Korean, English and Chinese). Very good binding and despite the complexity of historical facts, everything is set out on a very accessible level.

Since my first visit to the Korean War Memorial was in the framework of a cultural lesson in the Korean language courses, after visiting the museum we had to write an essay. I remember what "tender" feelings I felt for this museum at that moment ... Even in your native language you can not always correctly choose words and tell about some historical facts, but here only you learned how to write in Korean, and immediately had to write an essay.
