I have been living in Bangkok city for a little while now and i always told myself that one day i will get myself to these floating markets so this weekend i decided i would do it. I didn't book it with any travel tour or hotel i do not recommend that as you will be well over charged. I planed my own way of getting there not been committed to any one or getting ripped off.

You can either get yourself to the Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal to Damnoen Saduak and they leave every 40 minutes starting from 6am which will cost you 50 baht less then $2 US and take you directly there or you can negotiate with a local taxi driver not more the 600 baht about $20 US and he will take you to the front door , it's about one and half hour drive out of Bangkok city.

Floating markets in Bangkok can be very chaotic and noisy but they are quite a attractions and if you haven't been to one while in Bangkok well you haven't seen Bangkok in it's true form of culture.

I recommend every traveler to visit a floating market at least time , the colors, chaos, flavors and atmosphere make it all worth while and it's a unique experience seeing all these wooden boats floating down this canal all looking for a sale whether it's food a soup or a cold beer your buying from these floating wooden boats passing by you it turn's out a extremely fun day , buying a snack from these passing boats takes some beating.

I will say there are floating markets in closer distance around Bangkok if you don't want to travel that distance but the Damnoen Saduak Floating market is the most touristy one and gained more popularity in 1974 when the James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun" was filmed on this canal.

Riding in the boat along the canal gives you that opportunity to capture that perfect photo and you get to interact with the boat vendors up and personal the atmosphere, is like been at a theme park than a real local market.

If you are not knee on riding the boats well you can always find one of the many food stalls along the canal order yourself what you like from seafood , soups or the many varieties of Thai dishes eat and drink at your own pace and enjoy the theme park on the canal.

After your breakfast or lunch if you haven't taken the boat ride along the canal you can walk the markets on either side as far as you want to go and then you can cross over the many bridges built across the canal of course you will never see the markets in one day the canal is 32 kilometers long and has more than 200 branches.

I have never seen so much fresh fruit , veggies , seafood , sweets you name it , it was here whether it was the Thais in their rowboats selling fruit, vegetables, local food, and delicious sweets it was Thais selling all the way up the platforms on either side of the canal.

So do make sure you don't eat the night before so you can sample all these amazing foods and fruits , you will honestly be mind boggled in what you will see at these markets.

This was our lunch with the friends i when down with a great mixture of hot spicy , sour and sweet dishes is how the Thais love to eat and is how i love to eat and it's all freshly cooked in front of you...lol :)

A little bit of history on way this canal exist and why it is still the way it is today. Building the canal came from the idea of King Rama IV of Thailand 100 years ago , he wanted to link the Mae Klong River with Chinese river ways to support transportation and trade. It took over 2 years to dig, and was eventually finished under the reign of his successor King Rama V and today it is still used for trading goods.

On the downside of these floating markets they get incredibly crowded it like the population of Bangkok is all here so i suggest get there early morning have a look around have your early seafood lunch and get out of there just pass midday , take a tailboat and cruise around the more local areas it's a great experience seeing how they live and serve their self along the canal , food delivered to there front door and what ever else they may need.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market’s popularity grew to new heights in 1971 – 1973 when the river was full of farmers on their boats selling their wares. And that is the way trade is performed even up till today and you can still always get a cold beer floating along the canal in your row boat.

Because of its great colorfulness this floating market in Bangkok deserves its popularity. People's faces are beautiful!
Cinema can do more for many places in the world. The cinema can be the means to present places, not so popular, and for people to appreciate other cultures through a film, as happened with James Bond and this floating market in Damnoen Saduak.
It has been a pleasure for me to see all the photographs in this publication. Thank you for sharing this magnificent ride @hangin
