Labuan Baja - The gateway to Komodo

Labuan Baja

What a city and such a paradise for divers. We arrived by plane from Lombok to this busy traveller city and decided to stay a night or two.

This dusty, enchanting harbour town is perpetually being upgraded to cope with more travellers. It's the jumping-off point to see prehistoric dragons at Komodo National Park and be awed by world-class diving, and those who stay a little longer fall in love with 'Bajo' (attested to by a healthy expat community).

says the Lonely Planet about this city

Enjoy the view

By luck we picked a hotel up the hill as this offers a hourly bus to the city and as well a stunning view over some of the island.

This view is amazing

The "La Cecile" hotel has this huge terrace allowing you to watch the sea and some of the islands with all the colors of the sunset.

They say about their place at their website

La Cecile Hotel and Cafe is located in the heart of Labuan Bajo, a 5-minute drive from Komodo Airport and also in a close proximity to tourist site: the Kampung Ujung and Kampung Tengah. Ideal for business or holiday visits to Labuan Bajo and the surrounding islands, we offer open air meeting space, restaurant and bar, private pool for hotel guests while admiring the only breathtaking view of the lovely Labuan Bajo. We provide superior quality hospitality services to create unforgettable experiences for visitor

As we traveled with young kids they loved the pool while we can't get enough from that view. We even had a dinner with that view

The sun

There was this moment, where the sun just found a little whole between all the clouds to send some light to the ocean and luckily I had my cam to picture this great moment.

Meanwhile the kids enjoy the pool

This picture from the website of the "la cecile" hotel shows the beauty of the place from up the hill.

I tried to start my drone for a flight, but the place is to close to the airport, that I couldn't take off.

Back to the view

As you see on this other pictore from La Cecile, it could be worse and we decided to have just another beer to wait for the sunset.

The view in the dark

I doesn't took to long and the view changed into an ocean filled with little lights

Get a boat

As we luckily did our booking already only some weeks ago, we had the time to visit the city and to wash of the dust from travlling.

Stay tuned for my posts about Komodo and the diving with turtles there plus some of the flights with my drone

My conclusion

You should go to Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara in lovely Indonesia whenever you have a chance. Traveling there is still a bit different as the place is not so easy to reach and maybe a bit more expensive, but it is worth to go there.

I found the temperature is hotter than in Bali, but i like that the sea around those islands is very calm. Did you go to pink beach?

No, this trip we did not went to pink beach, as we stayed on a boat for max time to visit several dive sites.

When did you go there? its still in my to visit list, I hope one day i can go there.
and the view from your hotel looks amazing.
have a good time there

This pics are from a year ago and it is worth going there. Especially the diving and the nature is great. And the city has it own special atmosphere.
