Climbing Mount Tâmpa, Brasov, RomaniasteemCreated with Sketch.

in #travelfeed5 years ago (edited)

So, I was in Brasov, Romania in December when I was doing the extempore trip on continuation of Steemfest. On the day of arriving there after seeing the Castle Peles, I felt an ache in my throat – a sign that majority of the time is followed by a fever.

This time was no exception.

However, I usually beat a regular flu in a day or two max, as I did this time; with a single day of full rest at my hostel I was already in good shape to climb the mountain the day after.

I could see the mountain from the hostel window.

Originally I planned to go hiking into a natural park, but in the end had to cancel that plan, because the weather could've been too cold in the mountains for my gear, but luckily I got to satisfy my hiking needs in Brasov, thanks to the mountain sitting right next to it.

On the way up, I clearly took the steeper, less used way. At times I wasn't even completely sure where the trail is. Luckily, technology is always there saving the day to tell you're location from the phone.

No, I didn't at least have to crawl through that.

I guess I'm on the right track.

You might've already noticed from the pictures that it was a misty day and I was bit upset when I got to the top and could see barely anything through the thick fog.

After waiting a while at the top when I was just about to lose my patience and start descending back, I suddenly could see the whole city and I was so happy that I ran right back to the lookout where I spent a good while just looking at the beautiful old town.

Eventually I started going back, this time with the zigzag route that has a much more refined trail, but where I still had to be careful because there were some muddy slippery surprises.

Above this trail there's also a lift that can take passengers to the top and back for a fee. I for myself like climbing so much that I prefer doing it the hard way, it feels much more rewarding.

Right when I was below the lift lane there were two going; one down and another up which I captured on video below. If you pay attention you see how the passenger on the latter one waved at me when they noticed me shooting.

On the mountain there's a Hollywood-style 'Brasov' banner which during the night has blue-yellow-red coloring according to the ones in the Romania's flag.

I don't know why I took so long doing this – it was a half-way draft for over a months. I guess I'm just lazy and I don't even get much kicks for doing travel reviews that have happened some time ago. Maybe it is because I know I should be moving forwards which feels like wallowing in mud at times. I guess there's the fundamental problem that home (living with dad) doesn't put me in a position where I'd have to push myself. But with traveling, there's no option to stop because what, you're just going to stay there next to the road doing nothing? But then again, constant moving also started to drain my energy eventually. No matter what circumstance, it isn't good. Oh well, "life is pain", like House MD. said once upon a time.
