Camping with Bozz: Harbor Beach, MI
Camping this weekend took us back across the state to the shores of Lake Huron.
This was a very special camping trip and we actually didn't spend very much time at the campground, so I am not really going to talk about that this time.
My wife's parents grew up in Harbor Beach so we decided to visit here as a family trip. They stayed in some cabins that you can rent down by the marina and we stayed at the campground.
Since everyone else was staying at the cabins, we spent most of our time over there. The cabins were built by the building trades class at the local high school and they were actually very nice.
Each of them had a small kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, and a set of bunk beds. The porch offered some awesome views of the bay although it was a bit chilly with the wind coming right off the water. I don't think the temperature topped 70 degrees F the whole time we were there.
This was the view looking at the harbor from the cabins. We had a fire each night and it was pretty awesome.
If you didn't notice in the intro picture, my wife and I were kind of dressed up for camping. That's because this trip was more than just a family get together. We had a special surprise planned for her parents.
They were celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary, so all of the kids set about surprising them with a recreation of their wedding day.
We had the vow renewal at the same church and we invited other family and friends to attend. We also did our best to recreate everything from the cake to the tuxes and gowns. It was pretty crazy!
This is the actual church where they were married 45 years ago and where they recommitted this past weekend.
Following the ceremony we had a reception at the American Legion hall down by the lake. The hall is not very big, but it offers some amazing views of the lake. It was a great way to finish the celebration. I think it is safe to say that everyone had a great time.
We took a couple of other side trips while we were in Harbor Beach and will be talking about those in future posts. Some might be on Steemit, some on Tastem.io, but I promise they will be great.
If you get a chance to visit Michigan and you want to visit a little lake-shore town that doesn't get the huge crowds that some of the more touristy ones do, Harbor Beach might be just the place for you to visit.

Speaking of camping I wonder if there's any such permanent camping buildings at the Steemcamp Germany that's upcoming.

I'm not one for making up tents. But is it really camping if you don't do it the old fashioned way?
Oh for sure! To be fair we used to tent quite a bit. Camping can be more if an attitude than an action. Besides sleeping the amount of time we spend in our camper is sparse. Even if it is raining we often sit under the awning. It would be cool if they had something like that for Steemit camp. I bet they would go fast though...
Wow ,a great suprise for your parents in law... and a beatiful campsite... we are camping people too,went years with the caravan to spain and france. The last couple of years we went flying,cause our kids prefer :)
Yeah they were literally speechless when we popped the surprise on them around the campfire Friday night.
Yes, I can imagine !!! Those are the greatest moments !!
Now that's a really good way to camp, it beats sleeping on an air mattress, that's for sure! Going to have similar arrangements next week when I'm going 'camping' in France.

Thanks! Yeah now that I am over 40 I don't think my back could handle an air mattress on the ground anymore!

Yeah, it was pretty crazy. The cabins were very nice, just one too few, so good thing we had our trailer.
