Axeman's Travelfeed #014 - Monday Mission Entry: The City and The Rain

in #travelfeed4 years ago

Well, the autumn at Klaipeda (Lithuania) is normally grey and rainy. That's how it works on Baltic Sea normally. Though there is certain period of time, a few weeks, when all the trees around becoming very colorful. And concerning photography itself, such rainy moody days normally brings more deep atmosphere and even more colors and photos taken during rain (or right after rain) always brings very special feeling and are more easier for post-production and color grading/toning. But not to forget, that the trick is to keep the photo-gear dry enough to avoid any shortcuts. The pro models of cameras and lenses are normally waterproof, but they cost way much more than normal amateur can afford, so be careful :)

Normally I still don't like such a rainy weather, but that happened that day had camera with me and while walking home through Klaipeda old city, just take this series of "rainy" shots, which now going to present for the pleasure of the viewers

Just to remind, The Old City was built during Prussian and German Empire times and generally it still keeps a lot of authenticity and recognizable German architecture (which actually you can see a lot in Germany) and stone bricks roads everywhere.

So lets start from an unusual rotated shot which is only possible if you have wet asphalt or other surface...
And that is a good chance to play with some reflections around...

From the main road we are turning to a very nice place called "The Friedrich's Arcade".

And here is the quote from their official WEB
"In XVII century Memelburg castle was built and the city started to create at the meeting of River Memel and Dane. 500 years later during the Napoleon wars the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III resided in Klaipeda. In his honor the expanding territory around the Memelburg castle got the name of Friedrich city. Friedrich‘s arcade that opened its doors in 2006 combines not only this historic spirit with traditional Lithuanian hospitality, but also expands the concept of modern rest, leisure time and entertainment."

Yeah, it is empty now. But during summer days this place of too much overcrowded. Very nice one to pass the warm Summer evening with a cup of coffee or whatever else you would like. Perfect restaurants all around there

Going further we are passing few more narrow streets with some fine examples of colorful architecture. Well, normally they do not look so much colorful, but as have mentioned the wet rainy weather makes all the colors much more rich and deep

It seems to be real attribute of democracy and capitalism - at one side of the street there is shining luxury hotel, while at another totally abandoned building. And if somebody owns it, the city administration can't do too much about to force the owner to repair it. Though guess they try their best...
