Random roads in May days

It was a great trip to the north-western part of Russia. Departure from the city of Kostroma. The end point is the city of Pskov. On the road were the cities of Tver, Novgorod, Kashin, Kalyazin, Yaroslavl, Torzhok. In addition, there were stops in various unusual places. One of them is the Iversky Monastery.

Nikon was elected Patriarch in 1652, and in 1653 he asked Tsar Alexei II for permission to establish a monastery in Valdai. By the autumn of 1653, two wooden churches were involved. Nikon also ordered to transfer the relic of St. Joseph Borovichsky to the monastery, which was done in February 1654. In the same year, all the lands around Valdai Lake, including the villages of Valdai, Borovichi and Vyshniy Volochek, were declared the property of the monastery. The monastery became one of the largest landowners in Russia.

I was driving along the road from Vyshny Volochka to Veliky Novgorod. On this road I was driving for the first time in my life. Somewhere in the middle of the road I saw a pointer to the Iversky Monastery.

I heard something about this monastery. It is located on an island in the lake Valdai. This is a very beautiful place. I decided to turn off the main road and look around the monastery.

The path led through the forest and suddenly I saw a lake. Small bridges led the way from island to island until I saw a lot of water and a monastery.

It was very beautiful. Blue sky, sunset sun, the golden domes of the monastery.

We parked in a special place for guests of the monastery and went inside. Silence, peace, cleanliness and order inside. All bushes and lawns are in perfect order. There was a feeling of such peace that I just wanted to sit on a bench and sit, enjoying the peace.

In fact, the monastery is located on the island. If it were not for the bridge, you can only get here by boat.

On the territory it is quite large. The main church of the monastery is the Assumption Cathedral. Restoration and gilding of cathedral purchases are works of the last 20 years.

Beautiful place, rich in Russian spirit.

We also have a beautiful monastery on an island in Switzerland. It's also connected with one bridge to the land. I think that monks wished for silence and peace and this is why they built their monasteries on such places that were not easily accessible in the past..

It looks so peaceful there and your photos are very nice. I especially like the second photo from the bottom. It's a great panorama!

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely weekend!
