Boston (my honeymoon, part 2) - Travel Blog

in #travel7 years ago

I recently shared part 1 of my honeymoon from late last year, a trip to New York (read it here - https://steemit.com/travel/@zombiejosh/new-york-my-honeymoon-part-1-travel-blog-first-post )

After 5 days in New York, we got on a train at Penn Station and headed North, through Connecticut and Rhode Island, up to Boston, Massachusetts.

Boston is a real change of pace from New York, much more relaxed yet still buzzing with its own energy. We were staying in a student area, though most of Boston seems to be filled with fantastic colleges!

On the first day, we walked over to Cambridge, across the river, and got a stunning view of the city.

That was our only visit to Cambridge, and if we came back we would certainly schedule more time there, but we only had 5 days with lots to fit in, so it was back to the city centre.

We had picked our dates to visit well, as the weather was stunning for most of the trip, which was handy as we once again did a lot of walking. The park in the heart of the city was somewhere we were always passing through, which is no bad things as it is gorgeous in its autumn glory.

On the third day, we walked out of the city centre to Jamaica Plain, a cool part of town with a unique style.

Jamaica Plain is the home of the Samuel Adams Brewery, maker of the legendary Boston Lager. The brewery offers free tours and tastings. Trust me, if you're ever in Boston, make time for the tour. It is interesting, insightful, and the free beer is fantastic!

One of our finals days in Boston was spent on a boat looking for whales. Turns out we waited one day too long before doing this trip, as blue skies turned to fog and whales were not to be found! We did get a free return outing as we didn't get to see whales, which is a nice bonus, but to be honest we probably won't be back in Boston for many years!

I hope you've enjoyed reading my little travel blog.

See you soon,
