YourMateTravels#32 - The Two Different Ha Long Bays[ENG/DE]

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Vietnam kept surprising us over and over. From being clean, organized and quick to using lots of electric scooters in the north! And we were yet to find out about the second Ha Long bay... ;)

Tam Coc - The Dry Halong Bay

Following recommendations we drove to Ninh Binh, a less crowded town with lots of nature around - just perfect before heading to the capital. At the time of arrival we didn’t know about the Tam Coc yet, grabbed ourselves bicycles and suddenly were welcomed by a beautiful landscape.

Obviously they call Tam Coc the dry Ha Long bay, because the rock formations are same same but different (Asian way of saying ‘similar’ ^_^) to the ones in the actual Ha Long bay you’ll see in a bit. Both Tam Coc and Ha Long Bay are part of the UNESCO world heritage.

Ganz offensichtlich nennt man Tam Coc die trockene Ha Long Bucht, da die Steinformationen same same but different (asiatisch für ähnlich ^_^) sind, wie die der echten Ha Long Bucht. Sowohl Tam Coc als auch die Ha Long Bucht sind Teil des UNESCO Weltkulturerbe.

Hanoi Railway Street.
Only a few hours by bus and we finally are in the capital of Vietnam: Hanoi!
It’s our base for the Ha Long bay trip and since we got some time here, we walk the old town by foot and grab ourselves some local food.

In our hostel we got german company and were able to get a good deal on a Ha Long Bay trip for booking a family room.

Ha Long Bay

Rolling out of bed at 06:30 we drove to the bay early - it’s a four hour ride after all. On the way I could already see that familiar landscape!

Two days filled with action! Kayaking, cooking classes, caves, fishing, party - woooh!
Not so much. It was lousy. Whatever, let’s focus on the good things. :)

Zwei Tage voller Action! Kajaken, Kochkurse, Höhlen, Fischen, Party - woooh!
Nicht. Es war mies. Egal, wir picken uns das Beste raus. :)

Wait, is that a pyramid?.

Flo and me chuckle as we step into the kayak because we can already see us struggling. Wiggling and turning every other way than where we actually want to go, we nearly flip over because of laughter.
After a steep learning curve we paddle like pros. Kinda, haha. Taking other paths than the group, we float through a cave which opens up to a closed lake with flat water. Suddenly it’s quiet - the only thing we hear are birds. The air is so misty that tiny drops of water constantly hit the water. Both of us are silent and we just enjoy the breathtaking environment.

After the day time activities we got some free drinks and fished for squid at the back of the boat. They put a light above the water so they get attracted. Among several quick small fish we could spod squid every now and then. It’s a technique without bait in the water.
The simple rod only has hooks on a leash that you have to pull up in just the right moment using the right angle. Guess what: I managed to fish squids! :D

The morning after it looked pretty spooky.

The Inside Travels

This post is an incremental a roundup of last week’s daily posts, so for some readers it might be a bit redundant.

Facts first: Our next destination will be Malaysia and since we feel like we’ve seen enough sights now, we made the decision to rent an apartment in Kuala Lumpur for the next month! Looking forward to a bit of routine and productivity! :)

Writing everyday really helped getting faster at writing. I think about doing another week of daily posts to carry that further and also finish the inside series I started. What do you think is more appealing to read: daily posts or weekly roundups?
Also thought about doing short posts in between about weird stuff I see/experience. What do you think?

Was denkt ihr?

Hope you had a good read! Always happy about feedback.

Aufatmen!

Hola como estas? Me encanto tu post, sigue disfrutando. Un abrazo
