Poor Man's Beach Camping Escape

in #travel7 years ago

Good day Steemians let me share with you one of my travels from way back. Tight on a budget but on a desperate need of an escape from our monotonous lives. We sometimes need to go out, to recharge and feel alive. We decided to go out on a beach camping which we love doing. Away from the noise and bustle with just the sound of the ocean. The smell of the ocean breeze and the warm sand beneath your feet.

We found this quiet place somewhere in Calatagan Batangas in the Philippines. Calatagan is know for resorts, it's town is rich historically and archaeologically. This dirt road is surrounded by sugar canes and all of it's sweetness. Fresh air emanates along this road as it leads to our destination.

Our home for the weekend without all the comforts of home. But what is the definition of home for me home is being with the ones you love may it be a mansion, a castle, a cardboard box or a tent on the beach. As long as you are all together that is home.

Our dinner table for the weekend where we will feast on the bounties of the ocean. The best spot is underneath a tree where you would get the best shade is what you always aim for.

13.JPG

If I may say cheap yet lots of places to explore in this mysterious place which we stumbled upon. There could be fish and crabs hiding on the mangroves there.

19.jpg

The water may not be pristine at this time of year due to the seaweeds washed ashore. Still a great place to visit on a tight budget if you want peace and quiet away from those crowded resorts.

21.jpg

Bon fire is a must on all camping trips. Unless you are on a glamping trip. We always cook over wood burned fire I always hated those portable cookware. Plus somehow it makes your food taste better.

29.jpg

Beautiful sunset perfect for a dip without the sunburn.
41.jpg

Just sit back and relax on the shore until the sun goes down. With a little Bossa Nova playing on the back ground and a little wine perhaps?

42.jpg

I could stay here forever, worry free and time seems to slow down.

43.jpg

Call it a day with the sound of the crackling of the open fire, the stars above your head and the bewitching music of the ocean.

49.jpg

Morning has come and decided to take a stroll along the sugar cane fields. Had a chance to chat with some of the locals. I was informed that there are some stories or myth about an aswang (local folklore sort of vampire) which hides along the fields. Preys among those who venture at night. Good thing we did not know about it the day before. Well this does not ruin our experience. Every place has a mystery and it's part of the experience.

59.JPG

Cooking time! Shrimp bought from the local vendors cooked on our open fire. The outdoors aroma fills the air with delight.

66.jpg

67.jpg

It could not get any fresher than this. There are some local fishermen along the area and would sell you their catch of the day.
You just need to wave over to them and they will come.

69.jpg

You would not believe all this glory for around 2 STEEM converted of course lol.

70.jpg

We were told there are also lobsters which he caught earlier. We missed it if we just caught him during his first catch.

73.jpg

This starfish is one of our catch of the day. There are a lot in the area and of course we sent him back from whence he came.

86.jpg

This is the second catch of the day from our friendly neighbor fisherman.

89.5.jpg

Open fire roasting with a little squeeze of lemon and some salt PERFECTION.

90.jpg

We found these some local taught us how to catch clams and sea snails. Didn't know they were edible you just had to dig to get to them. You'll see later how they turned out.

109.jpg

Now these are those I see on display as souvenirs on shops. Some guy who surprised us just came out from the ocean carrying them in a net. I asked what they were some sort of conch I forgot what it was called. Still priced at around 2 STEEM!

114.jpg

115.jpg

Threw the conch on our open flame and man it was hard to get the meat out. The texture was like squid and a bit sweet to the taste very exotic. Love to eat those again will be looking for some recipes if ever I could get my hands on them.

116.jpg

Finally the clams and sea snails that we found. We made them into a soup with some malunggay that we found in the area. I love scavenging for resources around the are makes me feel like Bear Grylls on an ultimate survival trip. The broth with some ginger and garlic was very tasty and fulfilling.

117.jpg

There you have it a trip not luxurious as a Bahamas getaway or as captivating as Maldives. It's a poor man's down to earth getaway. A home away from home. Somethings money cannot buy spending time with the family, memories which are priceless.

I really like beautiful beaches and natural, really mdmpesona in my eyes, in my area also many beaches ya g more ibdah and natural, try it later you see on the internet like iboh island or zero kilomer, full of memeson the eyes of visitors from other countries . In this year I rarely spend the night in natural tang beaches, I used to spend the night on the beach and bring tents for camping and fishing for fishing.

@adoelesteem beaches makes us feel alive. Nice to meet an ocean lover like me. Fishing and camping on the beach is the best experience that everyone should try. Camp fire at night with just the ocean and stars at night gives us peace within. Will give you a follow
