Crazy, Scary Drive Thru Gilman Tunnels
Holy shit! You're not gonna believe this wild ride! Come along with me in FSR 376 through the Gilman Tunnels along the Rio Guadalupe.
The one-lane road winds through the narrowest, ruggedest canyon I ever done drove. A bit scary.
Accordin' to good ol' Wikipedia's page on New Mexico State Road 485:
[Gilman Tunnels] was part of the former Santa Fe Northwestern Railway (SFNW) through the canyon which was used to haul lumber from the Jemez Mountains. The railway opened in 1924 but never recovered financially from the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and ceased operations in May 1941 following flood damage from the Rio Guadalupe.
The Rio Guadalupe is the crick that runs through the canyon. It feeds inta the Jemez River a bit downstream. Can't see it much in the video. See here's a couple shots:

Tell ya right now, this video ain't nothin' but an amateur production. Vanholio drove one-handed up this skinny road, smartphone recordin' in the other. The tinny soundtrack is comin' off my radio. Surely riskin' my life is worth an upvote!?
Had no idea Gilman Tunnels was there til this mornin', when I went lookin' for a new campsite. It's up NM 485 / FSR 376 from Cañon (aka Cañones). That's a bump in the road between Jemez Pueblo and Jemez Springs. Here's a map. Ya need to go drive it yourself!
Lotsa other cool things ta do up there in the Jemez Mountains, too. Not far from Albuquerque and Santa Fe.

Just get a Go Pro cam and mount it on your head. :D
