TRAVELMAN RoME, ItALY: A Great Meal in The Jewish Ghetto

I ate at Sora Margherita in Rome. It’s in the Jewish ghetto.

I was unable to read the menu and didn’t know what to order so my crazy fun waitress (pictured) said, “Surprisa?”

I said, “Yes!” She brought me four courses, including a traditional Italian Jewish appetizer, a fried artichoke. The artichoke tasted like what it looks like it would taste like. She also brought me a gnocchi dish, a flat noodle pesto, some kind of egg based quiche(?) and a cappuccino. I had no room in my belly for dessert.

Each time she brought out a course she cut off the first bite and fed it to me. The other Italian customers in the restaurant were cracking up! It was so much fun and so tasty! I forgot to eat the artichoke heart so she cut that and fed it to me as well. Each time she fed me I felt ridiculous but she had me under her Italian Jewish mother spell deeply enough for me to play along.

At one point I turned to the Italian couple next to me (the woman spoke some English) and I quipped, “The service here is intense.”

A very memorable experience and meal.
